Query: Butler, George L. or T. I am looking for the parents/siblings/descendants of George Butler. He was b. ca. 1846 in MO. He married Amanda Darrow in 1869 in Jasper Co., MO, and a few years later, they moved to Bowie, Montague Co., TX. I am told that George Butler was half-Indian. Manuel and his mother, his wife Elizabeth Chiles, daughter of Moses Washington Chiles and Martha Koonse, sister of Seaborn Green Chiles, and children were forced to leave Fayette Co. Georgia in 1834, to Baldwin Co. Alabama and decided to head for Texas to fight against Mexico, rather than be forced to live in Oklahoma. Manuel in 1837 received a land grant in Milam, Sabine Co. Texas of 1250 acres, in 1849, he was bringing gold and tin from relatives in Oklahoma who allowed him to mine on their land, a letter brought by Capt. Weir, Manuel describes those living in Oklahoma as hi “Red Brethren” and White settlements. Manuel nearly lost his land to white squatters who claimed the land, but his neighbors went to court and support him in having received the land for his services. It has been handed down that the family was Cherokee and had to list themselves on a Native American census in the 1850’s but cannot find that document. They have tried to hide their heritage for fear of loss of property. Seeking any descendants of these people. Simmons, Ards, Duffels, married into Lydia’s family.
