Query: Looking for any info on the WILLIAMS family of Saluda Cty S.C. I was told that my maternal grandmother was Cherokee (full or half) by her father, Claud Williams. I’ve traced his family recently to 1850, but they’re all listed as Mulatto, it seems the community. He later migrated to florida around 1910. Does anyone know of this family, and were they actually Native americans? I find it odd, that I would have so much even for Mulattoes, before 1865. I can mention his father, grandfather possibly greatgrandfather, plus siblings. Claud was born in 1875 or so. Please contact me,thank you.

Query: I am looking for our Sanders or Saunders connection to my husband’s Native American Heritage. I have seen Sanders or Saunders name spelled both ways.
We have been told as a family through Oral Tradition that my husband’s grandmother Cora Missouri Ellen Sanders was Native American. This came from her daughters. The information below is a combination of searches from myself and other family members who are all looking for our Native American Heritage.
I am going to start with Abner Sanders and Polly Gilbert. Their parents are illusive as none of us can get past this point. Abner Sanders and Polly Gilbert Sanders are our brick wall and I would like to knock it down.
Abner Sanders born abt 1810 in VA died after 1841 in Osage County, MO married 7 Aug 1828 in Franklin County, VA Polly Gilbert born abt 1810 in Va died after 1840 in Osage County, MO.
Children of Abner Sanders and Polly Gilbert:
1. William Harrison Sanders born 15 May 1831 in Missouri? died 16 Mar 1881 in Dallas County, TX married Elizabeth Ann Quick (my husband’s 2 great grandparents)
2. Jesse J. Sanders born 16 Mar 1881 in Osage County, MO married Sarah “Sally” Ann Quick (Sister of Elizabeth Ann Quick)
3. Abner John AI (went by AI) Sanders born Abt 1838 Osage County, MO married 14 Oct 1858 Osage County, MO Mrs. Jane Quick
4. Mary A. Sanders born abt 1839 in Gasconada, Osage Co., Missouri married 21 Apr 1858 in Osage County, MO Carl Henry Hubler.
Children of William Harrison Sanders and Elizabeth Ann Quick:
1. James Benton Sanders born 25 Nov 1852
2. Mary Elizabeth Sanders born 27 Aug 1854 Osage County, MO
3. Rachel Ann Sanders born 9 Nov 1855 Osage County, MO died 13 Dec 1935 in Terrell, Kaufman Co., Texas buried a Lyons Cemetery, Dallas County, TX
4. William Q Sanders born 2 Jan 1858 in Benton Twnshp, Osage Co., Missouri married Mary L. Bryant
5. Abner Sanders born 24 Nov 1859
6. George McFarland Sanders born 16 Dec 1861 in Osage County, MO married Mary Etta Durrett
7. Frances Jane Sanders born 24 Jan 1864 Osage County, MO married Thomas Anderson
8. John AI Sanders born 15 Feb 1866 Arkansas married Leland Elmer Elder
9. Martha Nancy Sanders born 25 Feb 1864 in Hilltop Community, Dallas County, Texas married Henry Sidney Stone
10. Sarah Lucinda “Sallie” Sanders born 3 Dec 1869 married James Augustus Welch
11. Fredrick Orville Sanders born 28 May 1875 Dallas County, TX married Julia A. Hanner
12. Cora Missouri Ellen Sanders born 23 Jun 1877 in Dallas County Texas married Charles Albert “Charlie” Durrett (my husband’s grandparents)
When the DAWES was happening Cora Missouri Ellen Sander’s husband Charlie Durrett would not allow her to register for the Dawes. Thus making it now more difficult to connect back to the tribe. One of there children was born in Oklahoma. Granpa (Charlie Durrett) wnet and heard our government’s offer of free land, a cousin has stated but Grandpa decided to walk away. He did not want there free land.
We are now thinking that Aber is the name the Whtie man gave him and that this was not the name he went by. He probably went by his Native American name which none of us knows.
Anyone that can help us on how to proceed please email me. Thank you. And if you are a cosin from this line. I would love to hear from you. I have found several all ready but the inforamtion we are all seeking is now lost.

Query: Jessup,Smith,Ruahama or Rua or Ruey. On my paternal grandmothers side of the family my ggggrandmother was Mary Smith born in Kentucky around 1797-98 married Isaac Jessup. Marys parents were Cherokee, and there names were ether Walter and Moriah or Nel and Annie Smith. I am trying to find that part of the family. On the other side of my paternal grandfathers side we are looking for ether a Ruahama or a Rua or Ruey, or something close to that who married Zachariah Hinton-they were from Kentucky as well, and she was Cherokee. Maybe someone can help please.

Query: I am looking for any information on my great grandmother who was born in Barboursville Kentucky. She was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian and was born on June 28, 1893. She past away at a young age of 29 on October 17, 1922. My Mother (92 years old)is the last surviving child of this family of three girls. Supposedly Augusta Mother was born on the Cherokee reservation in North Caroline and moved from the reservation when she became pregnant with Augusta and took the name of Martha Harold and relocated to Barboursville Kentucky. Any information would be helpful to my Mother who has always wanted to know more about her Mother who past away when she was only seven years-old. Thanks to anyone who could give us any information.
