Query: My husbands grandmother was Cherokee. Her name was Caroline Goodall, she married James (Jim) Carman. She is on the final Dawes roll with mother, brothers and sisters. She went to New Mexico on a train because she had TB, but she died on the train. The rest of her family went by wagon as they had TB also. I would like any info that anyone has about her or the other sibilings or their parents or greandparents. I know that one brother’s nickname was Dink and at one time lived in Arizona and later Plymoth, California. His wife’s name was Eunice. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Census records from 1910-30 show her born in Kansas but that could be her trying to hide her nationality. My father is very proud of our Native heritage and I want to prove our lineage for him.

Zoe L. Langley
Query: Hello, I am looking for information on a Simarian Langley, who I think may be my great grandfather. The only records I have found on him are in the 1880 Federal Alabama census and possibly in the Tallapoosa marriage records in Alabama. That census lists him as born in 1872 and living in Red Ridge, Tallapoosa County, AL. His parents were John and Mary E. Langley. John was born in Georgia around 1841. I think he and Mary may have been Cherokee.
As of 1880 John and Mary had these children:
Louiza b. abt 1870
Simarian b. abt 1872
Martha F. b. abt. 1877
The only other record found so far show that Susan Isabelle Ballard married “Simmie” C. Langley on November 8, 1895. This is in the marriage records for Tallapoosa, AL.
Susan was born July 29, 1879.
They had three children:
Zolon Emerson Langley, b 1896, d. abt. 1960s [my grandfather]
Henry Willis Langley b.1897, d. unknown
Ocie Langley b.1898, d. 1901
The account found in my searching shows that “Simmie Langley” died on Aug 21, 1899 following a wagon accident. Susan and the baby, Ocie, died in 1901 of typhoid. Her parents took in the other two children. No records have turned up in my search of a “Simmie” Langley in Alabama. The marriage records show a CC Langley marrying Susan Ballard. That may be the Christopher Columbus Langley [John’s brother] whose 1866 marriage is listed on the same page. Maybe the CC was copied down wrong when transcribing these looseleaf records. My grandfather’s name was spelled three different ways in three sets of records, so the errors seem common. I found a John and Mary Langley on the Dawes roll but can’t verify if they are Simarian’s parents. I can’t clearly link to any of my Langley ancestors until it is known whether “Simmie” who is on no records in Alabama, and Simarian are the same person. Simarian shows up only in the one census, no others. I havent’found him in any online birth or death records either. If he isn’t on the Dawes roll, where else may I find records of him? “Simmie” and Susan were buried at the Carrville cemetery in Tallapoosa County, AL. Any information on this branch of the Langleys is much appreciated.
