Query: I have been looking for my great grandmother’s parents since the mid 1980’s with no luck at all. My great grandmother was Artimassa (Mae) POE, born on 22 Dec 1841 in TN and was left by her parents as a young child in the family home of the PRESSON family in Benton County, Tennessee. No trace of her parents in census or court records. I do know Artimassa (Mae) POE was part Cherokee and from doing research, there were several Cherokee POE‘s in Tenn., many migrating from GA to TN. If anyone knows of any Cherokee POE families, especially who moved to or migrated through Benton County, Tenn. in the mid 1800’s, I would love to hear from you. I am willing to check any leads out.

Query: My dying mother just revealed to me that my Great Grand Father was Cherokee Chief. This was kept hush because of the treatment towards those native. I have always felt connected even before she shared this. It is a very strong feeling as far back as I can remember as a boy. Great Grandfather WATSON lived in the 1800’s, had a daughter named Ethel WATSON. Finding fact on this would bring an understanding the strong tie which I have had to Earth, Nature, and Native beliefs… Thank you!

Query: I have been trying to make the ties to our families Cherokee lineage. However, I have not been very successful. The lines stop at William Stephen(or similar variation) BUSBY b. December 1858 in Oregon County Missouri. I believe his father died while William was very young. His parents were born in Alabama. His mother could be Martha Jane and his father John BUSBY. I believe the Alabama connection is the key to the Cherokee lineage. I believe BUSBY could have been given to the family as a reference by some of the English Settlers. This is of course simply speculation. Also, my ggrand mother Mary Jane(or variation) SWEENEY is a brick wall as well. She told the family that she was full blood Cherokee. She was born in KY abt 1888 I believe in Warren county. We have absolutely nothing on her parents or siblings. She married Albert Orville BUSBY in Oregon county Missouri where they had their children. She passed in April of 1966 in Earlton, Neosho county, Kansas.

Query: My great-grandfather, known as Freddie Earl, was Native American, married a English girl Maude FINK(believe), my grandmother never wrote out her last name because her family disowned them. (Interracial marriage) My wonderful great grandfather raised 3 children because his wife died of TB when his oldest child was 13. My grandmother was only 8. I’m having a hard time finding any “Earl” of Native hertiage. My grandmother has passed as well as all her siblings. My grandmother was born in 1912. Any information On “Earl” family of Native Indians, I would love to have or know.

Query: Looking for the Cherokee connection for my grandmother Etta HOLMES (real name Rosetie HOLMES) born 1881 or 1883. Her tombstone says 1881 but her marriage license says 1883. She married my grandfather William R. AUSTIN on 12-4-1904. She had 10 children and my father Loy AUSTIN was one of them. She was born in Monarch, AR in Marion County. She died in Sand Spring OK in 1967. I have been unable to trace her because she was raised in an orphanage in Monarch AR and she was Cherokee indian. I would like to do my grandmother justice and see to it that she is not forgotten. It is very difficult because of the frequent misspelling of her first name and the fact that I do not know the name of the orphanage in Monarch, AR or have any records as to who her parents were. The only paper trail starts with her marriage license at 21 to my grandfather, William (Will) AUSTIN. Any help anyone could give me would be appreciated. Please email me.
