She was half Cherokee; her surname was Lambert when she married William “Willie” Mendershausen who’d immigrated from Germany in the late 1800s. They married in Arkansas. Brenda Velez
Query: Hi my name is Brenda, a grand daughter of Adell Jarman Philpot. I am desperate to locate my Grandmother Adell Jarman Philpot’s belated (Cherokee Indian) Roots. The purpose for this search was because my grandmother asked me to help find her roots. Recently I’ve sent an e-mail to the queries section, and a emailer Loye Philpott Roach, sent me a list that describes my family; which happened to be my grandmother Adell Jarman Philpot. My mother is Mae Hodges Jarman. My grandmother Adells’ father Ed Philpot was Cherokee Indian. He lived in Buckles Berry, North Carolina near Jenny Lind / and Stoval North Carolina area. I was hoping that either you or any other Cherokee Indian Eastern Band will know any information about the family listed below. I now plead to you to help my belated Grandmother Adell Jarman Philpot bring closures in finding her Cherokee Indian Roots that originated from her dad Ed Philpot. Ed Philpot which happened to be related to Jober philpot. Please note since the last time I sent out a request search for my Grandmother Adell Phipot – Jarman, unfortunately and sadly she passed away on August 30, 2007. My family and I have recently come back from the burial held at Kinston North Carolina. My Grand mother was 101 years old. I am still hopeful that I can fulfill my grandmothers’ and her childrens dreams of finding the rest of their ancestors from the Cherokee India tribe. If you have any information that can help me, and my family to piece together to solve the connection of Adell Philpot to the Cherokee tribe, please forward the information. My family’s Cherokee Indian traits should not go unnoticed. My Grand mother’ Adell Jarmans dads name was Ed Philpot. Please help fulfill my Grandmothers’ wishes, and that is to be recognized for having Cherokee Indian roots.

Query: My late husband’s maternal grandmother, Clara Marie, was born on June 26, 1906 in Ohio. She was all or part Cherokee, but never knew who her parents were. Her mother’s parents had her marriage annulled and she knows nothing about her father, except that he was Cherokee. Clara’s mother died at the age of 19 when Clara was 10 days old. They had been staying with friends (last name either WALLACE or COX) and before she died she made them promise never to tell Clara her last name and they never did. She went by the last name of WALLACE after that and died in 2003 without ever knowing her true identity. I’ve been researching it for ten years and would dearly love to know the answer.

Query: I am trying to find proof of my grandmothers Cherokee roots. She was born in breathett cnty ky and settled in magoffin cnty. The native would come from her and her husband as they were related. I was told the native comes from alsup. Brice Patrick and dora craft were both of alsup descent. A story was told that her uncle Adam Craft lived near an indian reserve in North Carolina and told people he was Greek because at that time it was not good to be native. Much history on both sides are foggy because at that time race was covered up in s.e. ky. I also think my maternal grandma was of native descent. They claim they don’t know their race. She was Birchey Rodgers and had a Fuqua in the family tree. Her husband my grandpa Benjamin Agee and his brother Tillman Agee were said to have lived on the Cherokee reserve, but no one knows their race. Birchey was dark skinned with black hair and black eyes. Benjamin had black hair and hazel eyes. My race is a total mystery and it angers me that they felt the need to hide it so that we have no clue what our race is. My children know their dads side because he is an enrolled Tuscarora. I have no clue how to find my ancestry. If anyone can help–I would be happy.

Rachel (NC and VA Cherokee)
Query: STONE, BOONE CHEROKEE of VA
(Roanoke I believe)
Mother: Connie Stone her father: Samuel Boone Stone (grandfather) sister: Rose Stone. Sam’s mother was Cherokee w/ long black hair not sure of %, but grandfather was tan, w/ those dark circles around the eyes. Sam’s mother’s name was Julia Boone. Not sure if she was Cherokee through her father (Dr. Boone) or mother. There’s a Bessie Boone also.
THORNTON, WHITLEY of NC
Ritchie Franks (my father) mother Cherokee, Sadie Mae Whitley. Not sure if father was Cherokee (Oscar Whitley). Mother was Cherokee: Rachel Thornton, known as “Ma” (born 1901). Cherokee features, 1/2 or full? Born in Johnston County NC. Oscar was married twice, once to a white woman, my grandmother and her brothers and sisters(Ruby, Willard, and Needham) all lived in a small slavehouse on the white side’s farm, were very poor but educated, worked the fields. Rachel was very careful about being “Cherokee on paper” , telling everyone to mark white, and I’m suspecting not signing anything to do with showing Indian heritage, b/c looking like an Indian was not “cool” back then, she and her children experienced racism. Also, one of the male Cherokee’s was a Indian Horse doctor, not sure if this would be Oscar A. Whitley or Rachel Thornton’s dad or grandpa. I may have traced this side to Rachel’s mom a Minnie Lee Thornton and Samuel Edward Thornton, also found the name Celah, don’t know for sure if its a direct link, not even sure if its a Cherokee name. Very frustrating to research, would like any info. I can get.
