Query: My Cherokee grandmother, Sallie Mae Rodgers (1900 national census)/Rogers (1910 national census), nee Sallie Mae Cates, was taken from her family in as a child and was reared by a white family in Tenessee. She ended up marrying a guy from Florida, William Alexander Rodgers and lived near Huntsville, Alabama. One of their daughters was my paternal grandmother, Annie Laurie Rogers who married Riley Norman Morris and settled down in Columbus, Georgia. I have several questions:
1) How would I go about finding out who Sallie’s parents and extended family were?
2) Are there any records about the forced adoptions of Cherokee children by white families in the mid 1800s in Tennessee that might help me?
3) As one who is 12.5% of Chrokee ancestry, is there any way I could affiliate with the eastern Cherokee Nation and learn about my lost heritage?
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide in re this matter.

Query: I noticed a post from a great great grandchild of Mack and Lizzie Fuller (Reece). From your post, I gather that you are descended from Will Eugene Fuller, an older brother of my grandfather Walter James Henry Fuller, born in 1879 to Mack and Lizzie Fuller of Tuskegee, Macon County, Alabama. In a letter to her son (my grandfather) Walter Fuller, Lizzie says that he can write to his brother Eugene (also called Will) in Baxter, West Virginia. I think my grandfather must have been particularly fond of Eugene because he named one of his sons after him. I hope the person who posted this message will be able to contact me with additional information.

Query: My great-grandmother was Grace ODOM (ODUM?) STOUT. I don’t know how much Cherokee blood she had, but I know she was at least part. She married a J.T. STOUT in 1891 in Weakley County, Tenn. and moved to Indian Territory. J.T. died shortly after my grandfather, Carmon STOUT was born. She then married J.T.’s cousin James B. STOUT and at the time of the 1900 census was living in Oak Lodge, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory. The census shows Carmon 7, Mrytle 3, and Pearl 1 years old. They lived near Porum, Okla. for a number of years. My father Kenneth H. STOUT knew them when he was a child during the 1920’s. Sometime in the 1920’s or early 1930’s they moved to California. Carmon stayed in Oklahoma. Carmon’s sisters were Myrtle STOUT WEST, Ruby STOUT HAWS, and I think that Pearl married a WEST. I think Myrtle married Walter ISRAEL and had a son named Glenn ISRAEL. There was also a son or grandson that was known as the “Cherokee Fiddle”. There may have been other children but I am not positive. I have almost no family left and would like to fulfill my fathers wish as well as my own to know about his family.
