Margaret Lokey
Query: I have just received a research referral packet from the Cherokee Nation Registration Department. However, in order for me to send in my application, I have to find out the Roll #s of my ancestors. This is where I hope you can help me. I am specifically looking for the bloodline connection from my great grandmother and grandfather to myself. My great grandfather’s name is John Hood. He was born between 1870 and 1880, however, I don’t know where he was born or when and where he died. My great grandmother’s name is Elizabeth Butler. She was born in 1880 and died in 1920. Again, I don’t know where she was born or where she died. According to the Dawes Commission Rolls there is a John Hood (age 22 or 23) and an Elizabeth Butler (age 18 or 19). What needs to correspond is the years of birth and the connection from these two people to my grandmother Lillian Hood. On 2/12/1912 John and Elizabeth had a daughter whom they named Lillian Louise Hood. Lillian was born in Pelham, GA. Lillian married on 8/7/1929 in Albany, GA to John Tillero Lokey. She died in Valdosta, GA 7/1971. Lillian and John had my father Francis Pierce Lokey on 3/5/1934 in Albany, GA. My father died on 4/23/1992 in Tifton, GA. I, Margaret Lokey, was born on 9/29/1960 in Brooklyn, NY. I am also Mohawk with a blood quantum of 40.625% from my mother’s side. It is now important that I find out about my father’s mother’s side. I hope to here from you soon regarding your decision to take on this matter and of course the price. Cost is a major concern as I am presently out of work because I am permanently disabled.
