Query: Can anyone help me? I am trying to trace my father Claude Collins. All I know about him is that he was working racehorses on the backstretch of the Race Track in San Francisco the spring summer of 1949. He was supposed to have been off the reservation in “Bell”Oklahoma….according to what my birth mother was willing to tell me in 1968. I only met her once but she wa now willing to tell me much other then my father was Cherokee and that I came by my horsemanship thru him. Her name was Lucele Swenson. She was not married to my father that I know of. She was approxamately 21 in 1949. And I was put up for private adoption to a couple her brother Clay knew. If anyone knows of a Cherokee man by the Claude Collins or close variation, that was/is a skilled horseman between 71 and 80 years of age I assume that Collins was approximately the same age as my birth mother was at the time. My best guess would be he was born between 1925 and 1931. If anyone has any information what so ever….please contact me as soon as possible. I would truely like to find my roots if at all possible. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Query: I’m looking for any information on my great great grandmother and her family. I was told that she was born in Benton Co, Mo. There’s not record of her or her little brother there. My grandmother has mentioned several times that Estella was born on an Indian Reserve in OK on May 9, 1887. Estella told my grandma of coming to the ‘big city’ in a covered wagon because her mother (who was full blooded native american (we believe Cherokee) was ill and did not want to die away from her reservation. The person that I’m looking for is Estella Mitchell, born May 9,1887. She also had a brother named Evert we believe was younger than her. I have no idea her parents names and the mitchell is just a guess as we have nothing to confirm it. If you could help me please email Egnors@yahoo.com my name is Stacey. Thanks for your help!

Query: Since I was a little girl I have belived myself to be a Cherokee, when in the presense of other Native Americans they sense this in me also even now. My great grandfather was a chief and belonged to the Texas nation. My father can remember him being taken back on the train in all of his head dress to his reservation in the 30’s to be buried, yet because my grandmother’s sister would not say or agree to being a Native American we somehow now do not exsist. I cannot find any information on my grandfather which I find strange since they found them to have them sign up for the rolls during the depression. My grandfather’s name was Cheri and his reservation was in Texas that is all the information I have for him. My grandmother’s name was Mable and she married a Pope they lived in Riverside Ca. She was born in the French Quarter of Canada and was 1/2 French Canadian, the small village she was born in burned to the ground when she was a child so my search always stops with her. I would love to find any information I could on my great grandfather and my grandmother.

Query: Edward Conklin and James Edward Conklin. I am researching Edward Conklin who died,( in NY ??) between 1874.- 1879. We cannot find any records for him. No birth/date or place, No death/ burial/ date or place and No siblings or parents names. All we know is: Edward Conklin married Mary Baulsir abt 1870/1871. Together they had 2 daughters.: Prudence Elizabeth b. abt 1872 in Brooklyn, NY (my line) and Ema (Emaline)(Emily) or(Erma) b. abt 1874. in Brooklyn NY. I am seriously considering that our Edward Conklin may be a sibling of James Edward Conklin, Especially because of another coincidence: Although we weren’t sure if it comes from the Conklin line or Baulsir line, we have No Doubt that there is Indian blood on this side of our family. It is rumored to be Black foot Indian, but the memories are not so good anymore. Candice- I saw your query I could not e-mail you, so let me know if this sounds plausible to you? Please contact me.

Query: I am searching for the burial site and information of my earliest Cherokee ancestors CHEROKEE GEORGE and CHOW-E-YOU-CAH. I believe they were originally from Paint Town, N. Carolina area. Also searching for the burial site of and information on their daughter SUSANNAH (no surname found – b early 1830’s ?) married JOHN M. BIBLE who appears later in Texas with a cavalry unit with their daughter SUSAN BIBLE (b. abt 1850) but he had remarried and no mention of SUSANNAH. I believe SUSAN and her husband JAMES JACKSON are buried in the private family cemetery with now unreadable sandstone markers. The cemetery was started on the land allotment of SARAH JACKSON, James and Susan’s daughter in Indian Territory, Oklahoma, Cooweescoowee District. Several generations have been buried there as early as the 1890’s and the cemetery is still in use today. I am having a pair of winter mitts made from a beaver pelt and I would like to find a piece of cloth 1-2 inches wide about 40+ inches long that might have a Cherokee significance to attach as a border decoration on the mitts. Query: I am looking for Mary Elizabeth Whitehead. She was born 20Jan1845 in Atlanta, Georgia. She married William Harvey Nance 7April 1864. She is reputed to be Cherokee, but have no proof of this. A census says she is white, but that was done often. I would love to find out for sure if she was Cherokee. Thank-you so much.

John Robertson
Query: I am trying to find ANYTHING on a Susannah Johnson. What I have is she married a Joseph Rainey Robertson (Robinson?) 26 November, 1795, in Madison Co. KY. From the marriage date I “Guestimate” her age (if 20 at marriage) at about 1775 or later. I find the Scots often married among the native population, and I find the Johnson name among the Cherokee, a popular name for girls was Mahala, and they named a daughter Mahala. The family consisted of 8 known children, and obviously moved from Madison CO. to Bourbon County KY, as several of the children were born there. As the marriage was in 1795, and they were together, they obviously did not get involved in the “Removals”. I have found a Susannah Robertson living in Brown Co. (census) Indiana after Josephs death in Franklin Co. KY in 1833. I haven’t been able to find any further on her, and hope to get to Nashville IN to do a record search on Susannah. Anything will be of help, and I will gladly share what we have on Joseph, Susannah and the children.
