Query: GGGrandmother was Mary Jane Creasman(Crissmon, Chrismon)Chaudoin (Spouse Byron Chaudoin) Reeves (Spouse H P Reeves, Reaves) born about 183?ish in Monroe Co Tn. Father was Wallace A Creasman married to Biddie Scrimsher (B:1812 in Tn). She was 5 yr old on 1840 Monroe Co Tn census under Wallace’s household. She had a daughter, Martha (Mattie) Cora Reeves Scrimsher (spouse Conrad, Con, Conn). Wallace, from NC, served in army during Indian Removal in Tn. He, Biddie and Mary Jane did not go to Indian Territory, but settled in Lavaca Co Tx. Her daughter, Sophrena Angelina Chaudoin married James N Henderson in 1870 and purportedly moved to the territory somewhere in current Ok. My grandmother, Nancy Chaudoin Perry, told us about her father, Wallace A Chaudoin, taking them on a wagon trip to visit his sister Sophrena (Sophronia) in Ok around 1910 and the adventures they encountered on their 3 month trip. Also it was said Conrad Scrimsher left Lavaca Co on a horse to go to the territory to sign up for his tribe. His name doesn’t appear on any rolls I’ve reviewed. My mother said her grandfather, W A Chaudoin, told them when she was a young girl that his mother and grandmother were both full-bloods. However we have nothing to prove it. Not looking for any benefit but the pleasure of being able to show mother proof of her heritage.

Query: I am attempting to prove/disprove two possible Cherokee lines in my family. 1. My paternal 3rd great grandfather was John Brown. According to the 1850 census, he was born in GA. Family tradition says he was half Cherokee. John married Nancy Lowery in Warren Co, KY. 2. My maternal 2nd great grandmother was Mary Bledsoe, born in Surry Co, NC. Family tradition states she was half Cherokee. Mary’s parents were Wiley Bledsoe and Elizabeth Campbell. My maternal grandmother states Mary spoke Cherokee and my grandmother was able to speak a few words of what she said was Cherokee. Sadly, I was never able to learn it. I would greatly appreciate anyone’s help in clearing up these mysteries. I know that most families have some tradition that states they have Native American blood in their line. Yes, I would be disappointed if our traditions are false; but, the truth is more important to me. I am not seeking financial gain just the truth.

Query: I am trying to find out about my Cherokee Indian heritage. I was told that my great paternal grandmother was a full blooded Cherokee Indian and the 2nd wife of my great grandfather. He was disowned by his family for marrying outside of his race and left so we lost all contact with that branch of the family. His name was Maxwell from the Arizona area I believe. My father is the youngest of seven children and his family is spread from Arkansas to Alabama and elsewhere so information is forgotten, lost or unreliable. Believe this took place in the mid-later 1800’s?? My paternal grandfather, John Robert Maxwell was born in the very early part of the 1900’s and married my grandmother Jessie Dandridge (Maxwell) who was born in October of 1900. Not a lot to go on, I’m afraid. My sister who was a R.N. saw the ‘Maxwell’ name on her pod and inquired about where the patient/family member (not blood related)were from and after much conversation, they told her that they had heard of a brother who had left after marrying a Cherokee Indian and was never heard from again. She said it was a town “Maxwellville” or similar name but doesn’t remember the state. Do not believe it was New Mexico? Any info is appreciated although doubtful with this convoluted information.
