She was born premature and was a sickly baby. Biological mother was 16 years old and named Bonita who didn’t want to give baby up but her mother made her do it. Query: Carey William L. – Born 1885 in either Kansas or Colorado. Family lore has it that William was an adopted Native American (Cherokee). The 1900 Census for Otero Co., Colorado has a William Carey living with Egar Carey and wife, Elva. William’s birth month was given as October 1885 and he was listed as adopted, and away at school. But a William Carey, born December 1885, Navity Kansas, Nativity American (Does this mean Native American??), was also shown in the 1900 Census as attending the Colorado State Industrial School, Golden City, Jefferson County. William Carey married Carolyn Beltran on August 5, 1905 at Fort Garland, Colorado. William’s marriage record list his parents a Lawrence Carey and Pacifica R. Cortes. His death certificate shows his parents as Lawrence Carey from Ireland and his mother as Angeline Monteur born in Colorado. Also my mom found a marriage record for a Lawrence Carey and A Pacifica Newhow (not sure of the spelling of Newhow for I have not seen this document). I believe the marriage date was 1882. William L. Carey died July 10, 1942, in Seattle, Washington. Please I need ideas about Indian adoptions, why he might be in an industrial school, any thoughts or idea’s on where to check for records or what kind of records I might be able to find.

He married a woman named Rebird. The family records I have show her name was also Mary Jo Hindus. Since I am completely new to this, so which name am I researching? The Redbird or Hindus name; and will these names be in census records, marriages etc like other names? This marriage would have taken place in the early 1820s. Redbirds daughter was named Harriet Marie Parker and she is my gg granmother. I am trying to find out why now even 170 years later some of my kids look white and some are dark skinned with jet black hair. Same way with my brothers and sisters and aunts and uncles.
