Query: Throughout my family it is known that my great grandfather, Rex Andrews, was %100 Cherokee Indian. The biggest hardship involved in my search is that obviously, the surname Andrews is English…the last name was changed by my great great grandparents. I am having extreme difficulties finding out how to find out the original family name. The only relatives that I have, who are alive and would know anything about it are in poor health, one has throat cancer and is unable to speak and the other has Alzheimer’s Disease and can’t remember a thing about her family. The only other information I have on Rex Andrews and his supposable Cherokee heritage is that it was somewhere in the Tennessee area. I am assuming it has something to do with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. If anyone has any information on how to retrieve the original last name or anything about Rex Andrews and family it would be most appreciated.

The file only says “Native American, Cherokee Territory” for both Stephen King and wife Clara/Clary/Clarissa….I do not even know if the parents listed for her are correct but it’s all I have to go on. Anyone have anything on this ?? Also have a letter for inclusion to the Cherokee rolls written by Clara & Stephen’s grandson that states that Clara “was the Indian”. Query: Hello, I am researching my greatgrandmother’s Cherokee background. Her name is Myrtle Floyd and she was born in Missouri (right by the NE Oklahoma border) about 1886, possibly a few years later. She later married Duke Gray, also a Missouri native, and they then moved to Ottawa County, OK. Myrtle was supposed to be either full or half Cherokee, and Duke may have had some Cherokee blood as well. However, they are not on the 1907 Dawes Roll, although there are 7 Floyds on that roll, and a lot of Grays as well. One of my relatives told me that Myrtle WAS on some 1900 Cherokee roll, but she forgot the name of it. Does anyone here know of a Cherokee roll taken about 1900? Thanks so much.

Query: Looking for Enos Carroll Land Jr.,or Sr.;Enos Jr.;b:1 Jan.1818 in Tenn-believe to be in Marysville. I spotted his father in Spartanburg,SC in the 1790’s census. I am trying to find the native american link in this family. Enos Jr’s daughter Martha Jane Land, who is my gg grandmother-I have a picture of her and she looks very much like an indian. I don’t think it is coming from her mother’s side, but then again it could be. Her mother, Enos Jr’s wife’s name is Almira Keith the daughter of Jeremiah & Louisa (Doster) Keith. I know that the indian blood is not coming from the Doster line because the descendants from this line have done the research and the Doster’s are from Germany. I have no info on Enos Jr’s mother which it could be coming from. But I am going with my gut feeling that the indian blood line is coming from the Land side of the family.

Query: I’m trying to find my father whom I’ve never met. Relatives have told me that they were never certain if Chainey was his first or last name. What I do know is this: He was born on the Cherokee Reservation in Oklahoma in 1924. He stayed with some cousins on the North Carolina reservation as a teen-ager and learned to play the saxophone there. From 1951-1955 he played tenor sax off and on with the Count Basie Orchestra(he was fired and re-hired a lot because of drinking and other problems. He may have had more Afican than Cherokee blood and sometimes used the name “Nash”. I’ve been told a daughter by his first wife is an attorney for the Tribe. Any information you could ofer will be greatly appreciated. I’m getting on in years and would really love to find him. The last jazz musicians I spoke to who knew of him said he played in a dive in Peoria, Illinois for a time in the 60’s and 70’s before returning to the Reservation. I hope this helps. Kids were split up, but kept in touch and all got together again in Franklin County Ark. and Polk County Ark. in mid-1880s. John Henry Crabtree and wife Nancy, along with Mary Jane Crabtree Scott and husband Thomas Jefferson (Jeff) Scott appear to have moved to Pottawatomie County OK in 1890s and John Henry is said to have operated a large restaurant during the land rush/oil boom days. John Henry and wife Nancy are buried in Wetumka OK, Mary Jane and Thomas Scott in Montague County Texas. Query: My great great great grandmother was Elizabeth Cloud, born 1811 reportedly in North Carolina. Family legend has it that she is Cherokee. She married Newton Jett in 1834, reared her family and died in Breathitt County, Kentucky. Her death date is unknown. Is there any way to determine if she is, in fact, Cherokee? My Roll book does not go back anywhere near that far?

Query: I am looking for anyone with links to the Mt Tabor Cemetary in East Tx. We believe we have located the cemetary. It contains about fifty graves of “Ridge Party” Cherokees who lived in the area during and after the Civil War. I have a partial listing of those buried therein.
