Query: All of our family have been told that we have Cherokee blood in our background. They say my great-grandfather Newton Collins was indian. He married Florabell Simmons on March 19,1908. They lived in Granger county Tenn. till 1910. Newton worked for the R.R. there and they left and moved to Illinois that same year. He was 23 at that time. His parents were Winfrey and Mary J.Collins. Mary was a Collins before she married. Newton and Flora was from Tenn. and one came from Bean Station and the other from Morristown Tenn. I’m hoping that someone can tell me if he is indian or not.

Query: Looking for information on Darcus/Dorcas Ann Taylor, b. 18 Dec 1821 in Hopkins Co., KY; d. 15 Dec 1899 in Severy, Greenwood Co., Kansas. She married Thomas W. Holeman on 22 Jun 1848 in Union Co., KY. Thomas was b. 04 Jul 1826 in Union Co., Kentucky; d. 12 Sep 1899 in Severy, Greenwood Co., Kansas. I have been told that Darcus’ father’s name was Joshua Taylor b. in NC; her mother was born in MD. according to census records. I know nothing more about Joshua, nor do I know anything about her maternal line. I’m hoping someone out there has some connections.

Query: I am looking for info on gggrandmother Saphrony Wallace. She is buried in Mart Tx. She is a full blood Cherokee who was possibly born in Mississippi in 1871. She was adopted by the Turner family at a young age. She married John Edward Wallace. They spent some time in Cheyenne Ok until moving to Corrigan Tx where he died in 1952. I am unable to find out info on her birth parents.

Query: I’m a twelve-year-old girl from Winston-Salem, North Carolina and I have just became interesed in genealogy. I have always wanted to know do I have Cherokee blood. Because I have been trying to trace my heritage. I come from a family of mixed bloods and I was told that my Uncle Lum Columbus Hammond was part African-American and part Cherokee Indian. I also have a great grandmother that was part African-American and part Indian, but I don’t know what tribe she descends from. On my father’s side I have a blood relative that is of Native American Indian descent but I don’t know what tribe he/she descends from. So if any one has information could you please help me.

Query: I am interested in the children of NANCY DAVIS & WILLIAM ALEXANDER PROCTOR. I have seen where their children were b. in TN, migrated to MO and TX. My Proctor line also followed this same path. The son called William A. Proctor (also referred to as WILLIAM ALEXANDER DAVIS PROCTOR), always lived near by my family to his demise. Query: Am searching for my ggggGrandfather, grandmother. They are William W. & Rebecca (Baker) SMITH. He was born in Jasper Co. Ga. June 15,1824. She was born 1829 in Jefferson Co, Tenn. Would love to have a marriage date, and the birthdate of their children. The only date I have with a location is for a Nancy C Smith born in Arkansas, June 6 1854. She passed as Nancy HUFF on Feb 24 1937 in San Bernadino, Cali. This is where my Cherokee line seems to end. Any and all responses will be appreciated.

Query: I am trying to find anyone in the line of William Proctor and Nancy Davis. Need info on their son William. A. D. Proctor. They lived very close to my gr gr gr mother and her children, after she and her husb. split up, all the way until he died, still living near 2 of her sons. We do not know for sure who her spouse was only William was somewhere in his name. Could this be my line too? We were always told we had indian heritage.

Query: I am looking for information on a great, great, great grandmother who is reportedly Cherokee. Her married name could have been JOHNSON or BAKER. She died in a murder-suicide with her husband in the late 1880’s or early 1890’s around middle Tennessee or Kentucky area. She left several children, one of which was named Lillian Frances Johnson or Baker.

Query: Looking for information on a John Ketchapaugh died 1917 married to a Eva Mae Hawkins daughter Mildred DOB 1892 Died 1978. John’s father was Daniel Ketchapaugh Mother Olive Ulaskell. Was told Daniel was a medison man and John a chief. They came from Canada and moved to Michigan. Said to be Cherokee. Also told that John was laid to rest in Caro Co Michigan. Mildred married a Charles Hawes, he brought John and his wife from Canada. Charles was also married to a Elsie Wagonmaster who die young. There is a family plot owed by Charles Hawes if any one knows where it is.

Query: A few days ago my Uncle Gary found my grandmother’s bible that has the following information. I am trying to find my great great great Uncles, one is called Strong Crow and the other is Crow Stealer both from Carolina. My grand mother Marie Bertha Norden (Daugherty) accoding to her bible her family was given Indian given names along with dates given. My grandmother Marie was also given a beaded necklace from her grandmother Emma Delphey (Burton) married to Peter Burton. Emma was the daughter of Catherine Eiker (Delphey). My grandmother Marie kept telling all of us that we have Cherokee and my mom and Uncles are known as the Bear Clan. For they have given names and dates. Marie Bertha Norden-Star Basket 1914, her sister Orleania Norden-Long Echo 1915, their bother Virl Norden-Drinking Bear 1917 the list is long. Any help would be greatful. The necklace has several white beads that tell the story of the Trail Of Tears.
