Query: My dad was Chester L. Keck. My mama is Girtha L. McDaniel Keck. Their parents are Charles A. Keck. Fay B. Cole Keck and James R. McDaniel and Eddie Lena or {Lener} Moore McDaniel. Grandpa McDaniel’s dad was a Church of Christ circuit rider preacher. He was married twice. First family he had about 4 or 5 boys, and maybe a girl. Second family he had only 2 sons I believe: James and John. Heard that maybe 1 son settled in Clinton, Arkansas. I have met 2 sisters from there: Judy and Betty McDaniel. They don’t know much on their family background though. They do have more family in Clinton however. If anyone has any information on any of these families, please let me know. Thanks!

Query: Searching for any information regarding the lives of Robert Charland or Cleveland METCALF and Nellie WHEELER METCALF. Robert was the son of James Harrison METCALF and Eliza COSEN, and Nellie was the daughter of Mary Jane WHEELER and Bill MOORE. They were both born in 1885. I have found them as married in the 1910 Census, in Flag Pond, TN, and then they disappear. I believe that they both may have died young, as their children: Estella, Floyd, Bonnie, and Clyde were left orphaned as children. Floyd and Clyde were in an Industrial School and Home in Greene Co, TN in the 1920 Census. Bonnie was adopted, possibly from the area of the Qualla Boundary, by a family named OWNBY.

Query: If you are really concerned about proving Native American ancestry, take a DNA test. Unfortunately, a lot of us will be disappointed in the results, but if it’s that important, do it. If you aren’t one-quarter Native American that is documented, it doesn’t really matter, does it? Did you know it is estimated that more white people have african american heritage over Native American? Unless you are going to become an activist willing to work on changing the plight of many Native American’s, it a moot point. But if you really must know, take that DNA test, and you will know for certain.

Query: I have a letter stating that my Great Grandmother, GENEVA INEZ CHARTER, was a full blooded Cherokee Indian. Some sources show she was born in Ohio and some show Covington Kentucky. She died in Tacoma Washington. My Great Grandfather William Nichols, traveled to the reservation in Iowa and picked her up and they were married in 1884. Her father was SAMUEL CHARTER born in Mass and her mother was SARAH C MCMILLAN born in Kentucky. The Charter family were found in the 1870 Grant, Cerro Gordo, Iowa census, the 1880 Johnson, Ness, Kansas and 1880 Downs, Osborne, Kansas census. Samuel was a Civil War Veteran 1862-1864. He received a Civil War Pension. Samuel and Sarah were living near Hastings, Nebraska at the time of their death. I would appreciate any additional information available.
