Query: Marietta B. Woods: Born possibly around 1859 in Arkansas, perhaps Ozarks not sure. Married James Monroe Howell (spelling may differ) in Arkansas place unknown. 1910 census has her living in Hughes County, Oklahoma township of Newburge. Some of her children are listed in this census (spelling Hoell) Starlin, Pane, James B (my grandfather), and Calvin. My mother says grandpa had an Indian name but cannot remember what it was since she was very young the last time she heard it. Of the nine children the census reported in 1910 7 were surviving only 4 were listed. Also searching for Baker.

Query: I am interested in finding anyone with any connection to the Kitts (Little Fox). My family ancester Misiniah Kitts came from S. Carolina and was married to Jerimiah Outland in Calloway Co., KY before moving to Union Co., Il. She is buried here and I have visited her gravesite. There is also a Chief John Fox buried in the same cemetary. If anyone has any information I would love to know more. She is one of the only ancestors that we can trace with Cherokee heritage. It is believed that Outland was a Quaker Escort on the Trail of Tears. There is alot of family debate and I would love to be the one to crack the case.

Query: Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Thorpe born 1844 in Eastern U.S. Family records indicate that she was one-half Indian. (According to my grandfather, she was Cherokee.) Thorpe was the last name of the family that raised her and gave her their name, and possibly named her, as well. She was “given” to them for her to be raised and we don’t know why her parents left her or where they went–we have no information on her parents. She married George Sink on Oct. 15, 1868 in southwestern Virginia.

She married and African-American man whose last name was Stutts and lived in Yazoo County, Mississippi. They married around 1905 or 1906. She lived in New Orleans before marrying. Her mother was apparently full-blooded Cherokee and her father was Italian. I do not have their names. Alice Crawford died about 70 years ago in Mississippi. She died in childbirth. His second wife’s name was Nancy Ellen Patterson (my grandmother) died in 1934 at age 54? I believe she is my Cherokee connection on my fathers side. My maternal grandfathers name is Rufus Bailey. He died in June 1974 at the age of 73(?). He was married to my grandmother Emma Daniel, Born in 1897. I believe she is my Cherokee connection on my mothers side. I have joined a Native American Indian Commitee recently on base (Air Force) and I am not sure of the goal. My father told me his mothers maiden name was Patterson, I am sure I can find more information, but I don’t have the information readily available. If you have any information concerning my family please contact me. I am only 36 years old and my grandfather on my dad’s side was born over 10 and ten years ago. My father has died and my mother who will turn 75 years old this month does not know anything about our Indian heritage. My relatives are from norhtern Alabama.

I am looking at old family records which are confusing to some degree. Minnie Byrd: Born March 5, 1875 in Alcorn Co., Mississippi. Married James Frank Norman, Aug. 6, 1891 at Eddy, Texas. My uncle needs a name from our family history that will allow him to recieve his naming ceremony. I am not really sure what is needed, other than it has to do with the Byrd name.
