Query: Some of my husband’s family has long maintained that they are of Blackfoot Native American descent. I find the Native American part likely, just by their looks, but the Blackfoot part unlikely, since that tribe originated in the Northwest. Supposedly this family moved to Louisiana through Mississippi and Alabama in the 1800’s and maybe 1700’s, settling in the central part of Louisiana. That’s, what, over 1000 miles from Blackfoot/Blackfeet territory? My mother-in-law was a strikingly beautiful woman, and in younger years resembled singer Lena Horne. Could this Blackfoot tribe be some sort of code name for a mixed race group? I feel ok abt asking since now, in 2004, it’s not such an unusual thing to be of mixed race. People are increasingly proud of it, especially down here where so many people fall into that category. Thanks in advance for your answers.

Query: I’m trying to find out how to get my Native American bloodline documented but I need to know where to start. My great grandfather was 100% Caddo Indian, which I am to believe is part of the Cherokee tribe. Being so, this would make me an 1/8 Native American and I was wondering if I would be able to be categorized as a Native American and how to get it documented. Any help would be so very much appreciated.
