Query: I’ve been told one or both of my gr-gr grandparents were Native American, possibly Cherokee. They were born in the 1820’s in Pennsylvania. Their names were Solomon LEASURE and Mary “Polly” JAY. I’ve found a “Case number” on ancestry.com of 4732 for a Thomas Jay and a Joseph W. Jay, listed as being Cherokee. I’m wondering if there is a connection, and also wonder what that number of 4732 means, as I can’t find either of them in any rolls. Please help if possible.

Query: Hello, I am most curious about the Cherokee in my Eary side of the family, I believe it also used to be spelled Airy. Roan Eary was born in Tennessee but settled in Arkansas. He had at least two marriages, I know one of his wives was full-blooded Cherokee her last name was bell. Roan Eary is my great great grandfather and his daughter Sallie (Sarah) Eary was my great grandmother. I do not know who her mother was and I am unsure that it was Bell. Also, I believe at least one of Roan Eary’s parents was Cherokee. Jacob, and Zachariah Eary or Airy were also married to Cherokee I think. There wives only had first names. It would be nice to know exactly how much if any Cherokee is left for me. Helms and Moser’s are also my Surnames who may carry Cherokee lineage, however I am unsure where to start there. My grandfathers name was Edward Helms who married Sallie (Sarah) Helms. One last name is Shaffer Walter E Shaffer is my grandfather they settled in Kansas but first lived in Ohio. Thank you very much for any assistance you may be able to offer.

Query: Help! On Jan 6, 2006, my adoptive son, Jacob Wesley, was born. He is a very small percentage Cherokee. He has been in our family for five months and now the Nation has decided to exercise the ICWA to remove him. I have always heard there is Cherokee heritage in several branches of my family tree. I have traced one line back to Chief Eagle Plume who was around when John Smith landed in Jamestown. I cannot find any definite answers/information on whether or not he was Cherokee. Obviously it was way before the rolls, which I don’t think my ancestors signed. I also have a grandmother who stayed in NC while her sister Elizabeth Ann Parker-Owens came to OK on the Trail of Tears. If you have any info on either of these two people, PLEASE email me at KTCATO@aol.com, or call me at 972-849-5992, and help me keep my family together.
