Query: Wondering about a JOSEPH MORRIS, born in North Carolina about 1798. Came to Edwards County Illinois and married a HANNAH STONE, also born North Carolina about 1797. They married in december of 1820. Believe his father may have been an ISAAC MORRIS, who came to Illinois about 1815/20. He was said to have come from the south and was a backwoodsman of the true type. Had a large family. Many of these men took Native American wifes and I wonder if they could have been JOSEPH’S parents. Family tradition says we have Cherokee ancestors,(in several branches)and would like to know if this may be one of them?

Query: Hello. OK a Polish guy who thinks he may have Cherokee roots. Well a few years back I saw a picture of my Grandfather when he was a young man (Orland WALKER – Sayre, OK – he married Nola ARCHER from Cheyenne, OK – her parents were Calvin and Olive ARCHER) and he had jet black hair, beautiful dark skin and that wonderful, prominent, and sharp Indian nose. His father was Henry WALKER (he owned a farm near Sayre) and he and his wife had 10 or 11 kids. Everybody comments on my dark complexion after I have been in the sun a while….so, I decided to to check into my heritage because I do remember my grandmother saying that Grandpa had some Cherokee bloodline. Thanks, Frank

They came up from WV to Delaware and I remember my great grandmother wearing mocosins, braided hair, and the “dresses”. I have 1 cousin alive and we were talking this morning. I asked him which of our grandparents was part Cherokee. He told me that Clara WOMER (or WOOMER not sure); her mother was a WOMER also was full cherokee. Clara was married to James Delbert MARTIN. I can’t remember my Clara’s mother’s name. They moved to Delaware in what my father say a Beverly Hillbilly truck, no shoes (9 kids and parents) around 1945-1955 timeframe or maybe a little earlier. I just don’t have a lot to go on.
