Query: I really need information on Hester Anne (WALKER) SALLEE born 1882 died 1908, mother of Florence WILLIAMS born 1905 died 1967. Florence is my great grandmother, I have all information on Florence and the decendants. But none on Hester or her family. I believe Hester was full blooded Cherokee. I have found info saying Florence was half sisters to the SALLEE‘s thanks to Shirley Tanner! Query: I am trying to learn about my geneology. My family Is from what looks Like Oklahoma, Arkansas, and TN. My grandmothers name was Dolly L GAYLOR, from tahlequah ok she passed away in 2003 she married my grandfather Jesse J DOLLARHYDE from Arkansas he passed away in 1997 and they then moved to oregon and I do not know any of my family, and I cant hunt down any information because it all is scrambled with the names, and surnames.. my grandmother used to tell me all kinds of stories when I was younger because she and my grandfather helped raise me for the better part of my life and she told me that I was Cherokee how do I find out about my ancestors and where I come from.

Query: There is a family story in my family that Amanda BASKET was a Cherokee. She was born in Missouri in c. 1838. In the 1850 U.S. Census she is listed as living in Blue Township, Jackson County, Missouri with the Reuben LANSFORD family. At that time she was 11. She married Thomas Asbery VANN. Some of their children were: Elizabeth J. VANN, Martha P. VANN, Susanah VANN, Amanda M. VANN. I think they were all born in Napa, Napa County, California, USA. She died c. 1874. I can’t find any other information about her.

Query: I am looking for info on my 3rd great-grandfather, Roadman DEVERS (DIVERS, DEAVERS). He as born abt 1824 in TN, lived also in Murry Co, GA, & spent the remainder of his life in Jackson Co, AL. At the time of his birth the whole area was Cherokee Territory & there are rumors in the family that he as part Cherokee. Query: Looking for any info on Lizzie TUSTER, born around 1894 possibly in Indian Territory. Family history is that she was 1/2 Cherokee with a white father. Both parents supposedly died or abandoned her. I can’t find her on the 1900 federal census. She married Paul MUNO on July 3,1909 in Roger Mills County, OK. They moved to Oregon shortly after. I would love to have some confirmation that the stories are true!

Query: Still searching for my American Indian roots. Two brothers moved from Tenn/Oklahoma area one had last name of GALLOWAY the other Williams they purchased a slave and named her Jane RICHARDSON. She bore them over 20 children. Abraham Ceewood WILLIAMS was my grandfather who married Isabell BORDERS who spoke the Cherokee language. Also my great Grandmother was named Eliza(beth) DURHAM daughter of Barry and Patsey DURHAM was told she too was Native American (part). On my fathers side his mother was said to be the daughter of either Cochise or Geronimo legend had it that a white farmers daughter was kidnapped then later rescued, but she was pregnant with the Chiefs child who she gave birth to, they then gave the child to one of their slaves to raise who was called Mama Tex. I would love to solve this mystery of my family.

Query: My gr gr grandfather was JAMES H. GREENWAY b. 1842 in Ky., was a carpenter in Nashville but lived in Boone County Ky. for a while. He fought and was wounded in the leg in Georgia during the Civil War. JAMES GREENWAY married MINNIE OR EASTER LOWRY (EASTER on census, MINNIE in family notes). She was born in 1842 and she is the one I’m looking for. I’m told she was half Cherokee and have found a couple of Minnie LOWRY‘s on the Dawes Roll but they are not the right age. She had a sister named BETTIE/BETTY LOWRY who also married JAMES GREENWAY after Minnie died. They also had a brother named GEORGE LOWRY. He was born in 1844 and fought under Gen. Nathan B. FORREST in the Civil War. I can’t find much more about them on the genealogy sites and am asking for anyone who knows anything to email me. I’d like to know if I have any more family out there through this family line.

I was named after my paternal grandmother and was always told the name was Indian/Native American and Cherokee but have never been shown any proof of that. I’m not even sure which side of HER family it came from. Query: My great grandfather was Albert Paul MOORE. He was Cherokee. He married Edith Edith SHIREL Born 1918 Indidana, of Spencer County, Indiana. (My sister said they were married in Washington, DC in 1939. She said he was a taxi cab driver, there). They had only one child Delores Ann MOORE. Edith died about 1942. Albert left the child (my grandmother) with her mom’s family to raise. The story that was given to us was he went back to the reservation. I would love to find any information on Albert Paul MOORE. He was born in Oklahoma 1908-1918. My Grandmother is deceased now, so is my mother. That just leaves 3 people to try and find him (actually his grave) and any information about his life. I do have 1 picture of him. He was very tall, black hair and an elongated face. I hope some one can help!

Query: MARY ELISABETH CATHARINE MITCHELL is my GGG grandmother. According to the Census records, she was born in S.C. She was classified as a Free Person of Color, the designation for non-reserve Indians in the southern states before the Civil War. She was said to be a full-blooded Cherokee medicine woman and midwife. Her Indian name was WALELA, LITTLE WING, and she was of the Bird Clan, from the Lower Towns (Ayrate, or Elati = “lower”). She may have added the name Mary after the death of her older sister, and Catharine in honor of Eli YATES‘ wife, her husband’s grandmother. How can I find proof of this or sure?

To escape the Trail of Tears they came to NW FL. I cant find her on any Cherokee Rolls. Query: I received a letter from a distant relation. In it my great-grandmother states that her father-in-law Elisha JONES had a grandfather who was full blood Indian. Elisha JONES‘ father William JONES & mother Sinah CONNER were both born in Warren Co. Georgia. There is a Samuel JONES & Elijah CONNER in the early Warren Co. Georgia census living only one page apart on the census. I suspect them to be the grandfathers of Elisha JONES. Which grandfather is native american I don’t know.

Query: Looking for information on my grandmother out of St. Martinsville, Louisiana. Had children with a John W. FOREMAN (Linda and John in 1941, Morgan City, Louisiana.) John W. FOREMAN‘s father was Lafayette Earl FOREMAN. My grandmother’s name is Mary Ozier SANDERS on my mother’s birth certificate. My mother was her daughter Linda, raised in San Antonio, TX by a family called the ESTRELLO‘s or ESTRELLA‘s. I have a photo of Mary OZIER‘s mother…it states “Mary’s Mom”. I was told to me from my cousins, we have Native American blood, Mary’s mother was possible Cherokee and from maybe from Mississippi. My two youngest siblings and I were raised in Louisiana in foster homes. We would like to trace back our ancestry for our children and grandchildren. If anyone knows of these FOREMANS or Mary OZIER SANDERS history. We would greatly appreciate some help. Mary OZIER SANDERS was last seen in St. Martinsville, Louisiana…in the 1980’s. There is no trace of birth or death certificate. Died approximately around 1985! There is a story told we could be related to the Baseball Star Ronald GUIDRY in Lafayette. Query: I am looking for information on my 3rd grandfather, Thomas Jefferson ROBBINS. Oral history says that he was Cherokee. He was born in Alabama according to his marriage record. My grandmother told me his birthdate was June 16, 1847. He was adopted by John HINKSTON and lived in Bayo Meto, Pulankski, Arkansas as a child, according to census records. He later moved to Texas and married Sarah Elizabeth FORTSOM. He died in Selma, Montague, Texas. Any information would help.

Query: I was told that my great great grandmother was part Cherokee, Eastern Band, from Tennessee. Her name was ANNIE EVELINE JOHNSON, and she married Thomas Jefferson ROLLANS. Her father was named DANIEL JOHNSON, and mother was Elizabeth KEILLIAN. She was born in 1832 and died in 1896 in Arkansas. Would anyone with information please respond.
