Query: Stacey Frances Forbes was my great-grandmother. Was born 9 January 1843 in Kentucky. She died 13 February 1923 in Terry County, Texas. She married George Black, Sr. 8 August 1865 in Fannin County, Texas. She was found on the 1870 Federal Census in Fannin County, Texas married to George Black head of the household. Also living in the house with them were her father, John Forbes age 59, born in Kentucky, three siblings John W. (age 23), Milton C. (age 16), and Elizabeth (age 18). All the siblings were born in Kentucky. Stacey’s life is well documented from the time of her marriage until her death. No other info on her Forbes family other than her sister was called “Betty” and may have married a man named _______Bryson and is suppose to be buried in Big Spring, Howard County, Texas. I have found no other record of this family prior to or after the 1870 census. Stacey said she was Cherokee. Taught her grandchildren to be proud of their heritage. Passed her striking looks to her descendants, black eyes, raven hair, and dark skin. Desperate for information on this family. Would like to know who was the mother. Will gladly exchange info.

Query: Griffin and Jackson’s of Twiggs Co and Wilkinson Co, GA. I am looking for anyone that might know if these families might be of Cherokee descent. I have 2 adopted daughters whose paternal biological families were from that area. Their biological paternal grandfather has a very dark skintone and hair. One of my daughters has a very deep skin tone with very thick straight carmel brown hair and green eyes. The other is very small in stature and has such beautiful silky straight dark (almost black) hair, though she has very pale complexion, she has a wide prominent forehead and beautiful blue eyes. From what I have been told their families have been in that area for many generations. Other names connected to them are Johns and Gilmore. I am continuing to get more information as it comes along but as you might guess both of my daughters are very inquisitive as to where their good looks came from.We are currently looking into the possibility that their might be an ancestor somewhere that might have been Cherokee,or possibly even another tribe from that area.
Morgan, Mike Giles and Liza Ann Wiles Morgan. Their daughter Julia Lindy Morgan Coble was rumored to have been of Cherokee descent. They lived in the Stanly Co, NC area at one time, Julia was born there poss Dec 15, 1884. I have no other information on Julia’s parents but I know her brothers were Nathan and Burlie (sp?). Julia is my father’s grandmother and she died in Va in 1981 at age 96. Her youngest daughter Elmittie Coble Eanes is my grandmother. Unfortunately my grandmother is not very forthcoming with information. My grandfather Stuart Eanes is the one who mentioned the possibility of Cherokee heritage in his mother-in-law’s family. Since then he has had numerous strokes and can’t help me any further. I do have to admit I have noticed several of my fathers ancestors seem to have rather exotic features and my father seems to have a very deep skin tone. Most of my grandmothers family has had very dark hair. But I’m not really confident about this rumor, I suspect alot of families have heard these old stories and found out they were just stories to excite the imagination. I do know that Julia’s husband William Franklin Coble was of some type of German descent but I don’t have any pictures of him, he died in the 1930’s so I can’t rule this out as of yet. I also have some doubt due to the forced relocations having pushed most of the Cherokee Nation out of the south. I have checked the Dawes Rolls and find the name Morgan in several places but it appears that Morgan is a common name associated with alot of familes and at this point mine is at a dead end. I would like to keep trying to see if anyone is famliar with this family and to look into the heritage, it might explain a few things in my family.
