Jeff Mullis
Query: My great great grandfather’s name was John Mullis. My understanding is that he was full Cherokee. This name has now become common among the male members of our family. Do you have record’s of Mullis or Walters, which was my grandmother’s maiden name. The area they are from is Polkton, South Carolina originally. I’ve been told that two brothers with the last name of Mullis were provided land grants by the King of England at a time when the Cherokee would have been the occupants of land in the Carolinas. This is all I know.

Wanda McJunkins Baldwin
Query: I’m looking for information on a McJunkins living in Georgia about 1870-1880. He had four sons: William, George, Harve, and R.V. He also had a daughter Mary. I don’t know his name something happened and the family refused to talk about him. I do know he either was Indian or married an Indian we believe Cherokee. I also know William married a Julia Richardson (she was Chickasaw or Choctaw) and moved to Arkansas. They had a son in Arkansas and a son in Oklahoma. There Julia died and William moved back to Arkansas. This was in 1913. We are trying to find out about his father living in Georgia. Family rumor is that there was a murder that caused the family split that was not discussed. I would appreciate any information that could help solve this mystery.

Query: My grandfather was Noah Newsom, b. 1887, in Floyd Co. Kentucky. He was obviously half American Indian and family “history” said that his father had married a Cherokee woman. Query: When my grandmother passed away, we found a picture of her as a child with her grandmother who was a pure Cherokee, or so we were told. My grandmother had always jokingly told us that we were part Indian, but because of the stigma attached to mixed bloodlines at the time, nothing was ever made of it. I know that my grandmother’s maiden name was Lily Mae Albin, and she was from somewhere in Oklahoma, where I was born. If anyone can help me find my true bloodline, I would greatly appreciate it. I have an uncle, Elmer Butler of Lawton, Oklahoma who could possibly provide more information if needed. I think that at one time he had tried to trace our ancestors.

Charles Todd Apple
Query: I need to know my Indian heritage for my and my children’s sake. Mind you, NOT for any sort of benefits as much as for the spiritual peace of mind and the deep desire to know who I really am.
1. My father Charles (Chuck) Norman Apple is Oklahoma Cherokee but of unknown blood percentage. He died in 1999 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 61. He was in the U.S. Navy for many years off and on and is buried at Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.
2. His father Norman Charles Apple died around 1980 in Oklahoma.
3. His mother Geraldine Sitter (Apple) died a few years after that.
4. My mother is living and is of limited Cherokee decent — again ukn. percentage. She is alive in Sand Spings OK.
5. Her father Guy B. Davenport died a few years ago in Tulsa Oklahoma. Her mother Lura Davenport died in 1999 also in Tulsa OK.
The family never researched or kept records of the Indian heritage — for prejudiced and other awful reasons.

Query: Please help me. I am trying to find my relatives. My name is Shannon Yoshida. My father was adopted with the biological name of William Wright. His parents came from the reservation in Oklahoma to Hayward California. His mother’s name was Roberta Wright. His father’s name was Forest B Wright. Shortly after leaving the reservation. They came to California and got into trouble with the law. They were charged with Arned Ribery aas well as murder. My grandmother went to Santa Rita and my grandfather went to San Quinton. My father was adopted through an illegal adoption. I do however have his adoption certificate. When he was 14, is sister Susan Wright came to meet him. He never kept in contact as he had felt betrayed for being adopted to a couple of alcaholics with the last name Schouweiler. He was contacted as I wrote by his sister who was still living in Hayward CA with her aunt Ann Collins. Her address was 611 Hampton Rd. I have been passed the legacy to find my family. It is so hard but I have faith it can be done. I just don’t know where to start or what to do. The last name Wright is so common. The hospital he was born in was burned down. H was adopted in Nevada as no one would adopt a child to the Schouweilers due to their natorious behaviors. His father was the one who signed him off to the Schouweilers. His mother`s signature is nowhere to be found. They don’t have either one of their social security numbers on any documentation. I only hope ther is some recordings of any of their names somwhere out there. I am heart broken. There is an empty part of me that doesn’t know my heritage. And it is very hard as I am red haired and fair skined. I am not the typical Native American. Please help me to learn something of my passed. Any little help would greatly be appriciated.
