Query: I am searching for information on John Crisp, of Graham county, N. C. As I understand, he went on the Trail of Tears, to Oklahoma, falling in love with one of the Cherokee ladies, came back to Graham county, where he had a wife and ten children, took one of his son’s, and went back to Oklahoma, married the Indian girl, and never heard from again. I understand that I have been told that other Crisp men there in Graham county, also married to Cherokees, and that I have Cherokee blood, also. It would be so great to know that I am part of the Cherokee Nation, for I have great respect for them. I had a friend, Dennis Wolfe, in Cherokee, N. C., and lost him to a car accident, which made me very sad. Any information on the Crisps, and the relation to the Cherokees of North Carolina, will be greatly appreciated.

Query: I have a friend who adopted a daughter at birth. According to a bio given them at the time of adoption, the biological father had two grandparents that were of Native American Indian descent, Cherokee. In our state the adoption records are sealed and can only be opened in life/death situations. This girl is now preparing for college. She is very intelligent, but not genuis status, and would like to go to a Big Ten School or an Ivy League School, but the money for tuition is a problem. If there is this American Indian bloodline, I’ve heard that she would be entitled to some government tuition money for college. Do we need to really go about getting a tribal certificate, or is just the bio from the case worker of the paternal family and maybe some genealogical documents to give background enough? Thank you for any assistance.

Query: I am seeking information re my maternal great-grandmother–Nancey Susan Crow (a Cherokee). She was born around 1842 in North Carolina. She married Richard Alexander Walker on October 5,1859 in Perry County, Missouri. She died around 1930 in Bollinger County, Missouri. She was an aunt of the author(Herbert)Carl Crow (Sept. 26,1883–1945). She may have been the daughter of Richard Crow, Jr. and Frances Eve (Abernathy)Crow, but I am not sure. If anyone has any information about Nancey Susan Crown or her family, I would be most grateful.
