Query: In 1883, my great grandmother, Matilda Duncan Edwards, a young widow, lived in the Cherokee, Ravens Ford, NC, community. She had receintly married a man by the name of Queen. His children from a previous marriage did not accept her 3 year old son, David Fillmore Edwards, because his skin was ‘dark’. She had no choice but to give her child away. A man by the name of Mac Jinkins, McJenkins, or some similar spelling, who was married to a full blooded Cherokee woman, took David to raise on/near the reservasion. At the age of ninteen, (and after possibly having sired a child by his foster mother) he returned to Ravensford, met and married Minnie Palistine Henson. They had 8 children. Minnie died when my mother (now 85) was 12. David died when Mama was 14. My mother is the last of her family except for a younger brother who was too young to remember his father. With her death, all my mother’s family history will have died. I am looking for any information on the Mac Jenkins family. I want to know more about my grandfathers early years. Was he possibly Native American? My mother says no. They were ‘black dutch’. She does not understand what black dutch is. She thinks they were Spanish/Dutch. I know better. My mother has high cheek bones, olive complexion, and at the age of 85 still has little grey hair. You can tell by looking at her that she is Native american. Any help in this direction will be greatly appreciated.

Query: I am looking for a Cherokee Woman with the Christian given name of Molli Smith I believe to be from Missouri. The only info I have is from an email sent by my mother: “Granddad was Wayne Harold Smith, his father unknown, his mother was Nellie Smith, unmarried. Nellie Smith’s father was Frank Smith and he actually raised granddad. Frank Smith’s name MIGHT have been Francis Major Smith…but I couldn’t verify that either. I don’t know Frank Smith’s father’s name, it could have been Benjamin Smith, but I was never able to verify that, so it could be easily wrong. He was married to a woman who was Cherokee Indian and was given the Christian name of Mollie. That’s all I know about her.” The information is very vague all I know is this is on my grandmother’s side who was from Missouri. Please help if you have any information.

Query: Looking for info on the Tiners sometimes spelled Tyner from Tenn. My Grandfather Paul Tiner murphy was 1/8 Cherokee. His grandmother Sydney Tiner married his grandfather Benjamin Murphy March 6, 1856 in Ill. The tiner/tyner name is fairly common on the rolls censuses of the Cherokee. Sydneys father was Richard Tiner of Tenn. her mother was a Jenkins. This according to the history of Montgomery Co Kansass. I know that all on the Murphy earlier than this were white. So the Cherokee blood on that side of the family comes from the Tiners. Early records for “common” people in the Cherokee is sketchy at best. Any Tiner/tyners out there who may have info on them I would like to hear from you. On my Grandmothers side the Cherokee blood history is quite clear I have my Ggrandfathers orig. enrollment from 1907. That line I have going back into the 1730s as the family was quite famouse included several well known historical Chiefs people. My GGgrandmother walked “the trail” at age 16.

Query: My gramma LOLA PEARL HILL/MILLER and her family, comes from Missouri, the names of which I am inquiring about is on my grandmother’s side (she was Cherokee and so was her mother and father). The names are HILL and BAILEY. They came from Reynolds County, Mo. I know that there are relations to them in Tulsa, Ok. Area. Some of their relations started a restaraunt over the Turnpike, which is where the “World’s Biggest MCDonalds” now exists. All I know is that these people in Tulsa (area) are my relations and they might have information on THOMAS ISIAH HILL or LAURA BAILEY HILL. I know that they were alive in the late 1890’s and died in the early to late 60’s.? THOMAS, I think was from Oklahoma (origionally), and LAURA’S family Tennessee to Oklahoma(?). My cousin TANYA HILL has done major searches on our Cherokee ancestors and I don’t know if she has found a lot of important info. I was told that LAURA was enough Cherokee to be enrolled, she chose not to be, but I guess her siblings were. Or at least that is what I was told. I don’t know what is true and what isn’t. If there is someone who could help me out, it would be a dream come true. My Great Uncle DOYLE HILL frequented a lot of pow-wow’s in Oklahoma, and seemed to be the only one of my relations that was really proud of our heritage, everyone says that he made up a lot of stuff though. I have been trying since I was very young to learn more but then give up. I have had so many people remark on my Cherokee resemblence it is too hard to just ignore it. As far as I know I am an eighth Cherokee but don’t know for sure. If any one can help it would make a dream come true for me and my family. Any information will be more than I have, and greatly appreciated!

Query: I am looking for information on my gg-grandmother Arrainy Harding Kasinger, born in Virginia and married to James William Kasinger . She was supposed to be full blood Cherokee and on the Old Settler rolls. However, if she was, she is under her Indian name and I can’t find her as I do not know what it was. She was supposed to have had a brother named James. Any help would be deeply appreciated.
