Query: I am looking for help finding any information on Indian Adoptions and my grandmother Pearl Knox. What I know is that she was born on the Cherokee Indian Reservation around Qualla NC in 1905. Her and her brother Lacel were adopted by a family from South Carolina, Davis and were raised by them. We are told that the name Knox was a shortened version of their Indian name. My grandmother has passed and is buried at the East Lawn Cemetary in Sacramento California in an unmarked grave. My mother would like to honor her heritage and if possible have her reburied in her native land. However, without finding out information on the adoption for this area in the early 1900’s we can’t prove that she was born there. We are not interested in anything except to honor my Grandmother as she was extremely proud of being Cherokee Indian. Please if anyone can direct or assist me, I would be greatly appreciative.

Query: I am currently looking to prove/disprove a family legend. I am looking for a connection to the Cherokee through the parents of John M. Owen.
John M. Owen Born: Abt 1816; Kentucky. Married: Matilda J. (maiden unknown)
I am looking for information on Matilda particularly. I have yet to find her prior to her marrying John Owen or to discover a maiden name. I believe there could be a Cherokee connection with her.
John and Matilda moved to Indiana and resided in Clark, Montgomery, Indiana by 1860. All children were born in Indiana (according to the census I’ve found) so the actual move took place earlier obviously.

Margaret M Owen 8, dau
Letta M Owen 6, dau

Query: Please help me, I am 1/16th Cherokee, my mother told me a lot about her Indian Grandmother who was full blooded Cherokee, she told me that my great grand mother was a Ross, her daughter was Pamela Ross, both were from Virgina, where my great Grand Mother moved to, she told me that she was married to John Ross who was English I think. My grand mother brown skinned she had very long black hair, she was about 4’6 inches tall, and I was told could ride a horse better than any man bare back. My grand mother looked white, was a red head, with look hair as well with green eyes this was her only child, they moved from Virgina, and were related to the Reeds, Clarks, and Reeves. My Grand Great Mother settled in Harford Conn, and lived with a family who were I think another related all I can recall was the name Aunt Susie, Who had a very big home there, and my grand mother worked as a house keeper there somewhere in that area. She moved to New Yourk City with my Grand mother who had my mother Glady’s Elizabeth Ross, born March 25th, 1913 but here is something interested she had no birth record from Virginia because she was born via a midwife, remember my mother having problems getting this record for social security back years before she died. my mother was a red head, hazel eyes, 5’2 in ht., She married Willam Holland whose family was from Virginia as well, Then divorced him and married by father in 1951. She had another relative who was adopted into the family his name was Milford mccooms I think this is the spelling. He lived in New York City as well and he named another native American Indian and had one child a daughter. My mother told me that her great grand father was a very important man within the Cherokee nation, that he was living at one point in England. And that his brother was someone important has well. All I know is that she was very secretive and did not want anyone to know about this heritage. Another interesting fact was that she would check our nose, and would say that those within the family had a hump in the nose bone, and one toe would be longer than the others on our feet and it’s seemed to be a trait that our family has, I was told that we were members of the bird clan, Please help me with this one please e-mail and or call me 1-630-666-8528. When I was a little girl I receive a tribal name I was very little then and it was from I think a Chief White Cloud, not sure but because I was so young I now have forgotten that name. I have dreams before I was told of this of riding a horse bare back in the earlier days of the west.I had a bow, and was riding next to a cowboy the dream stays with me, always, I am also a seerer can see the future this was within my mother and her mothers mother. I met a man who I worked for years ago his name was Nate Clark and he was related to me he did a family tree on this he lived in the Chicago area. All the women in my family rule the household, are very strong, I also have a gift of knowing the law, and relating it to others. Just giving this out to see if anyone within the tribe can tell me about my family tree and who I am and I am seeking my tribal name. thanks
