Query: Through generations on my mother’s father side, info was passed down that someone married a full blood Cherokee. Searching info online and through Ancestry.com we found a lady named Cora Lee CASTLEBERRY (15 Aug 1866 – 15 Jan 1902) that was married to John Frank CLAIBORNE (9 Sep 1865 – 28 Apr 1925). Family members suspect that Cora Lee was the Cherokee that we have been looking for, but have no real substantial evidence of it. Both John and Cora are buried at the Shiloh Cemetery in Flower Mound, TX and can be found on the Find A Grave website. Ancestry.com shows that Cora’s father’s name was William and her mother was Caroline from Kentucky. Cora however was born in Illionios and the family ultimately ended up in Muskogee OK. That path is very much like the Trail of Tears. If anyone has any info on Cora Lee Castleberry or her family, please contact me.
