Query: Hello All… I had heard family rumors that we were descended from Fork Tail WATTS. I had assumed that meant John Forked Tail WATTS. Recently I received a copy of an Affidavit done by my one of my ancestors. In it she names 4 sons of Forked Tail and claims one (Jacob) as her grandfather. The sons named were John, Jake, Jim and William Garrett. Now I think there must have been another Forked Tail, and have seen the name “Thomas Forked Tail WATTS” from the 1700s. If anyone has any information regarding this line, I would really appreciate hearing about it. Thomas goes even further back in time than John.

Query: I have traced my heritage back to my great, great grandmother who was full-bloodied Cherokee Indian. She was born in 1819 and died in 1845. All I know is that her name was Anna and was married to Laney Henry Funderburk and lived in South Carolina. She registered as recognition and sent a photo with a letter. I have no clue of where to look for her registration or which registration group she used. Is there anywhere I can look to try to find documentation that might have listed her husband’s name to help identify her?

Query: My grandmother, Ruby Alder Shields was born in Oklahoma city in 1911 to Melton Shields and Dora Westbrook. She was said to be partial Cherokee. My research has shown that Dora’s grandmother was Mariah Jane Horne, who was half blood. Her mother Rachel Cromwell (who later married a Horne) was first wed to a full blooded Cherokee, who fathered Mariah. The only name attributed to him that i can find is Chief Yun. Does anyone have any info on an indian by this name in the early 1800’s? Any info for research or verification is welcomed.

Query: I’m trying to find any information that will guide me to find out my heritage where it relates to the Cherokee Indians. I was always told that my father’s great grandmother was full Cherokee Indian, and I would like to do more research on that. My father’s last name is STANLEY, and in case it was mixed up, and was my father’s mother’s family, her last maiden name was DEITZ, or DEITZBURG (of German decent). Most of the family has lived in South Carolina, Anderson, Greenville, Laurens and some in Gastonia, North Carolina. Any information will be much appreciated. Thank to anyone who can help.
