Query: Searching for info on husband’s great-grandmother, Nancy Anna Hunter, b. 5/16/1864, perhaps in Georgia. Family lore is that she or her mother were Cherokee but Nancy and her daughter always said they were “Black Dutch”, and refused to talk about that part of the family. Would like to confirm, one eway or the other, to add to the family history we are building. Nancy married Henry David Mobley in either Georgia or Alabama, before moving to Texas. All we know of her mother is that her maiden name may have been Green.

Query: Hello! I do hope that someone will be able to help me out with my situation. I am not able to attempt to find my ancestors. I never knew my father’s name or him as well. My mother has told me that he was a full blooded Native American Cherokee Indian. My whole entire life people have always recognized the Native American in me by my features. I was always pressed to go find out if I was or not. I did not even know how to begin the journey of finding out. I am now a proud mother of two and not only need to know for myself but also for my children. I think that it is very important for everyone in this world to know who their ancestors are and their heritage. Not to mention the fact that now that I am all grown up with a family of my own I am ashamed of the fact that I do not know key facts as to who I am. As well as key facts that could possible explain or foresee any medical conditions that may have to be dealt with. If there is anyone here at ATC who can and would not mind helping someone begin the journey of finding out who they are without much information to go on please, please, contact me. I would appreciate any help at all. Thank you for your time and any assistance that I am givin in this matter.

I have had contact with my biological family and chosen not to work any ancestorial research through them. Would I have any chance of pursuing my Indian heritage through tests or records?

Starting with my grandmother Dossie Farmer daughter of Columbus Farmer son of William Farmer and Mary Elizabeth Smith, son of Bill, Burl or Jorna Farmer spouse of Rebecca peoples. Here is the problem he is the son of Jim Farmer? Suppose to have married a fullblood Cherokee whose father was a Chief Nail? In the 1859 census of white town ship in newton county arkansas a John Farmer is listed as living with Rebecca Farmer and children. Also a Pernina Farmer. John (44) and Pernina (13) died of pneumenia. Can’t find any records earlier or following few years. Any help to obtain the true names of Rebecca Farmers husband could lead us to finding out where we came from. I have the children’s names when born who married and so on so if u get a lead e-mail me and I’ll give u the information you might need. The indian records are our last hope to get this family line past 1835.

Query: Mr. Grandfather’s name was John Zone and he was a full-blood Cherokee. He was born in Greenville, S.C. in 1892, nine years after the migration of Cherokees from SC to Oklahoma. This fact leads me to believe maybe he did not live on a reservation. He moved to Chicago, IL around 1924 and married a young black woman. If anyone has any information to help me track his family in Greenvile, I would be much appreciative.

Query: I am looking for ANY information on my Cherokee ancestors. Harold Click (the first or second) was half Cherokee. He lived in Indiana and Jackson, NC. He married Mary (unknown last name at the time). When Harold died Mary and the rest of the family, which included my father Harold the second or third, moved to Wyoming. Any information tying them to any roll would be appreciated. Also, I know the surname Click appears in the Starr roll and that some Clicks are related to the Voyles/Voils. I don’t know how my family is though.

Query: My grandmother once told me her grandfather or great grandfather was a Cherokee Indian Chief, at that time I was young and not so interested and after I grew up and she was gone I got into genealogy so the only line I’ve came to a dead end and believe could be indian because of photos and extensive research on her other lines was her great great grandparents on her mothers side, Franklin and Eliza A. Mitchell found on a marriage license of their daughter Mary Martha Mitchell 1880 in Roodhouse Greene Co. Il. and haven’t been able to find anything else on them so far, anything look familiar?

Query: I have an old slip of paper dated 4/10/1894, on it is Certificate of Membership of Mary J Lawrence of, Allen I.T. Is a member of the “Cherokee Indian Citizenship Association It is signed by WJ Watts (president) and WP Black (sec.) Book C page 527. Is this a recognized membership to anything legal. The date is what makes me currious. I found an article in a Muskogee newspaper (1898) about this man and it called him “The King of Intruders” and said he was going to Washington to see if he could get questions answered about his list of Cherokees (called intruders). Does anyone have any info on this. Mary J (Hawkins) Lawrence, is my sister-in-laws Great Grandmother.
