Query: An old family diary notes that a Chief John Thompson was the father, and Mary of Cherokee Nation Georgia, the mother of Archibald and Lucinda Betsy Thompson. DOB of Chief John Thompson is between 1688-1722 in Georgia, and his death estimated between 1750-1806 in probably Virginia. Mary was born between 1696-1723 in Cherokee Nation, Georgia and died between 1750-1811 probably in Virginia. Archibald was born in 1736 in Montromery County, Virginia, and died May 11, 1802, and Lucinda was born about 1735 in Conasuaga Creek, Georgia, and died between 1773 and 1830 in Edmondson County, Kentucky. Lucinda married Charles ‘Longhunter’ Skaggs, who was born in 1730 in Tazwell, Virginia. I am trying to verify the Cherokee lineage of Chief John Thompson and Mary Thompson, both of Cherokee Nation, Georgia. Any help would be appreciated so that this ? can be cleared up in the family tree. Be well.

Query: I am trying to find a link to the Indian ancestry in my paternal family lines, We have determined that the Indian enters in at the marriage of John Baker to Mahala Glover or later in the marriage of Absalom Perry Baker to his second wife, Francis Jane Carpenter. We feel strongly that it is the marriage of John and Mahala as I was told from an distant cousin that Francis Jane Carpenter was disowned when she married that “half breed” which in light of my research I find odd as I have been able to prove Indian in her family!John Baker(1801-1890) and Mahala Glover (1804-bef 1880) dau of William and Nelly(Elizabeth) Glover had eight daughters and six sons, their eldest, Absalom Perry being my great-great grandfather.

My grandfather warned me to not let anyone know that I was Cherokee before he passed away in 2001. An elderly relative has since told family memebers that James’ Father was Chief Doublehead. That James himself was the Bird Doublehead that took part in killing Chief Ross. This was why the family moved so many times in the 1800’s, living in Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, etc. Does anyone have any information on this family?
