Query: Hello, My grandmother and her family lived in Eastern Ky. Hazard Ky. It was easy to see that my grandmother was 1/4 Cherokee. She always said she heard heard her uncle’s and Grandmother say that they were a member of the cherokee called the blackfoot. I don’t know if this is correct or not. She said she could remember when the family got together that her Mothers side of the family were all from Cherokee indian decent. My grandmother’s Mothers name was Amanda Gross. She married a man by the name of James “Jim” Mosley. I remeber him very well. I called him Pap and most everyone else did also. Some called him Jim Pap. We would visit him in a cabin in Hazard. I remember they had the best water. I would pump it from the well. He had electric cord run out to his cabin for a small refridgerator where he kept a bucket of the water in there with a ladel. We would just drink out of the ladel. I thank you fro your time. I know the Gross name is a pretty prominant name.

She was born in either Tennessee or Arkansas in 1825 and married John Graham, a Scottish immigrant. They lived in the Pine Bluff AK area before the Civil War. Their son John M.(1848-?) served in the Confederate Army. They moved to Marshall Texas after the war where she died in 1902. I suspect that she was Ouachita (not Coushatta) which means (?) she was born in AK? If not, was she on the Trail of Tears? Where was she born? What band did she belong to? What was her maiden name?

Query: Searching for Triplett lineage. I had done extensive work years ago and lost most of it. So I’m rebuilding my charts now which isn’t hard to do from both memory and some materials I still have. The Triplett family I am researching is for my two sons. This family is out of the mountains of NC but for reasons unknown opted to go west and therefore, my sons great-grandmother, both her parents and many of their brothers and sisters and as I recall an Uncle or two are on the Guion Miller roll. For some reason, they did not make it on the Dawes roll and came back to their home of NC, but I do know there are Triplett’s both eastern and western bands. Suggestions on how to proceed? Is it even possible that my son’s could become tribal members, which is their hope, if I can prove lineage, blood quantum?

I believe that I am, even on my fathers side (William Lambert) but I am now waiting on his death records to reveal his parents names. Query: I am currently looking to prove/disprove (hopefully prove) a family legend. If anyone has any information on the Click family being part Cherokee (from my research it would be quite far back in the 1800’s). I am also looking for a connection to the Cherokee through the parents of John M. Owen. John M. Owen Born: Abt 1816; Kentucky. Married: Matilda J. (maiden unknown). I am looking for information on Matilda particularly. I have yet to find her prior to her marrying John Owen or to discover a maiden name. I believe there could be a Cherokee connection with her. John and Matilda moved to Indiana and resided in Clark, Montgomery, Indiana by 1860. All children were born in Indiana (according to the census I’ve found) so the actual move took place earlier obviously. Children as of 1860: Prissilla j Owen 18, Susan Owen 17, Elizabeth J Owen 15, William G Owen 12, Margaret M Owen 8, dau, Letta M Owen 6, dau, Marthy e Owen 5, dau, Josiah Owen 2, dau [JESSIE], Benjamin F Owen 9.12, son.
