A white family adopted her. Adopted father was an Ellis and adopted mother was a Besson. She also had two adopted brothers. Several years after my grandmother was born my biological greatgrandmother remarried a man by the name of Smith and had two sons by him. He never knew about my grandmother. I know her mother had a sister but they have both passed away. So getting some information is impossible. My grandmother married an Irishman. I did live in Lawton Oklahoma for awhile and tried to do some investigating but I did not have alot of luck. My grandmother grew up in Oklahoma and My mother was born in Oklahoma. Since then everyone lives in Texas. Hope you can direct me in some direction.

Query: I am searching for possible links to the Cherokee through a Taylor surname. Rumors are constant at family gatherings about Cherokee ancestry, though I have yet to see anything concrete. Here goes: My great-great grandfather was Robert Taylor (b. Nov. 1833). He married Nancy Dickard (b. 1837). They had 10 children named William Alvin, George, Robert Henry, James B., Thomas, John, Luther, Lula, Frank and Mary. My great grandfather, William Alvin Taylor (b. 1857) married Mary Anna Kelley (b. 1860) in 1880. They had 13 children named Fannie Itura, Jessie Agnes, Robert Madison, Lawrence Andrew, Carrie Bell, Lula Hortense, William Anderson, Herman Roscoe, Hattie Leona, Mary (Mammie) Estelle, Arthur, Wade Eugene, and Ila. As far as I can tell all of these people lived in the upstate region of South Carolina. Any help tracing any links back from Robert Taylor, or Nancy Dickard will be appreciated! (As a side note, the lineage through Mary Anna Kelley, William Alvin Taylor’s wife, goes directly back to Chief Powhatan, Pocahontas, and the Powhatan Nation.)

Query: I recently received a copy of an article that ran in the Jackson Times Paper in Ky. that ran in ’71 or ’72. The article was done on my g grandfathers niece. His niece, Sarch Collins who was the daughter of Mary Sewell had lived to be 103. Sarah states in this article that her grandmother, Minerva Robertson was a Cherokee Indian. I have not been able to find any info on Minerva b: 1839 she married a Joseph Sewell. Does any one know of this family? Minerva is my gg grandmother and I would dearly love to locate our missing family.
