Query: Paternal grandmother, Anna Mae Jamison(1893-1993). Her mother Martha Matilda Turner-Danials (1858-1899). We were told Marthawas “kidnapped” by the Turners and only told her real name on her wedding day. An alternate version was an old Indian woman had too many children and she “gave” Martha to the Samuel Turners who raised her in Cherryville, MO. where she married William Jamison. They told her the real name was Danials and that is all we have. No first names, just that her mother was Indian and was moved by soldiers and that she gave birth to Martha on the trail. All help is appreciated. Thank you.

Query: The 1896 application (denied)to Cherokee Nation of my great grandfather, Adam Hindman HAMMAN, on behalf of his children, had a lineage account given by his mother, Charity Emeline (TURMAN) HAMMAN. Her last name on some genealogy info was previously also known as BROWDER and MCCANDLESS. Her mother Lucy, may have had a second marriage with William MCCANDLESS. Her dictated and transcribed statement follows. “My maiden name was TURMAN. I had one brother named Thomas TURMAN, we being the only children of Larkin and Lucy TURMAN, my mother Lucy TURMAN’s maiden name being ALLISON, she being a daughter of William and Charity ALLISON, Charity ALLISON’s maiden name being BROWN, Charity BROWN, being an illigitimate child of _____ BROWN. I think the name of this woman was Nancy or Jane, a full blood Cherokee Indian and the refuted father also was a full blood Cherokee Indian. The above named Nancy or Jane BROWN had one brother named Robert BROWN, they being the children of John BROWN… resided at Brown’s Ferry on the Tennessee River near Chatanooga. I was born in Tennessee near the Brown’s Ferry and lived there till I was about twelve years of age. I remember the family names as given above and that they were known to be Cherokee Indians. I am sixty-three years of age.” She states that this John BROWN should have been on the 1836 Cherokee rolls. I have seen in posts that this John BROWN also may have been known as James BROWN and possibly related to Alexander BROWN? Do not know if this is related to Chief John BROWN of Creekpath. Have found, possible matches of given names Charity, Nancy and Robert, with last name BROWN on Freedman rolls. Any info appreciated.
