Query: Looking for information on Thomas Watts, born about 1765. He moved his family to Texas in about 1832, and had a Spanish Land Grant of one League in Jasper. Eldest son John lived next door in 1835, then moved his family to Colita, and also had a Spanish Land grant there. We do not know John’s mother. My wife is descended from Thomas, and John and her nephew’s DNA was tested and showed that the paternal DNA was Native American, not Irish as some researchers show. Thomas IS NOT related to Chief John Watts. One relative has seen a family bible that shows Thomas as being called Irish Watts, apparently for his mother’s heritage. His son Thomas Jr. was called Cherokee Ben. Any information would be helpful.
