Query: I am hoping to find some info on my gggg grandfather who was a full blooded Cherokee as was his daughter(my ggg grandmother)His name was KING GRIFFIN and according to my family this was his true name and they called him “King the noble Indian of the Cherokee tribe”. He had murdered his wife, (no one ever knew her name)was a real big man and I guess that’s how he got this title. His dughter was Mary Elizabeth GRIFFIN. They were in the Eastern Band in NC and never went on the Trail of Tears. He supposedly hide in the woods so they couldn’t find him and he stayed behind. The best I can figure he probably died around 1880-1890 and the tribe he was with was between the towns of Edenton and Hertford in NC. If this helps..Mary Elizabeth married George Harris and their first born child was Vina Ella Harris(my gg grandmother) who was born on Sept. 4, 1875 in Martin Co. NC.
