Query: I did not find out about my biological father until I was 49. My mother was dying of cancer and decides I needed to know. She said his name was RICHARD CHASTAIN and she met him in Stockton, California in 1948 or 1949. I was born in February 1950. My mothers name was HELEN LAVERN DUKE at that and her maiden name was WOODS. She was married but separated when they met. She told me he was a full blooded Cherokee; and, I am the spitting image of him, except I am female. She was 17 when I was born; but, she never told him about me. He was 19 at that time. Both of their families worked in the fields and followed the fruit harvests here in the San Juaquin Valley of California. She said he liked to dance, play guitar and sing, roller skate, play baseball and play pool; or billiards. These are my favorite things also. I have been searching since 1999 and still have not found many answers. My mother was taken away by her mom and dad before I was born and she never saw or heard from him again so he never even knew she was pregnant. Unfortunately, my mother has passed now and this is all the information she could give me before she died. If someone can help me find him PR information about him it would answer so many questions for me.

Query: My father – James Lonnie MILLER would be 90 yrs old now always said his grandfather was a Cherokee Indian Chief. His mother, Hattie Lee HENDRIX looked like an Indian Squall right out of the old movies. The records show she was born in 1899. Her father was James Edward HENDRIX, we think born in 1849 and we think his father was Calvin HENDRIX. The family lived in Perquimans County, NC near Hertford and New Hope. I found many HENDRIX names in the Oklahoma area but not Cherokee. I have always been interested in the Cherokee family heritage but have not been able to find the right one.

Query: I am trying to get information about Julia POWERS and Lillie Powers DUKES, my great-great-grandmother and great-grandmother, respectively. We have a photo of Julia with a caption about her (described as “a Cherokee woman”) marriage to G.M. POWERS. Lillie, Julia’s daughter, married Joseph Alfred DUKES (a Choctaw) in 1904. As I am having trouble finding information, including whether either was on the Dawes Commission rolls for the Cherokees, or any of their ancestors. Any chance you might either send me a link to a complete listing of the rolls, or tell me whether either or any of their ancestors are on the roles (with roll no.)?
