David Teer

Query: I saw these postings on the Cherokee web site. I am David TEER. I was born in Birmingham, Alabama. Fathers name is Preston. My mothers mom maiden name was HARRIS. My fathers moms maiden name was YEAGER. Not sure about the spelling. Nevertheless I was always told that moms mom my grandmother, her blood uncle was full blooded Cherokee somewhere around Rome, Georgia. He lived in a teepee and understand she was very scared if him for some reason. But that dude of the family is very dark skinned and black hair. My fathers grandmother was full blooded Cherokee I think in Cook Springs, AL. So I think I am part Cherokee. Do you know how to go about finding out. Is there a blood test one could take to find out that information? Anyway was just browsing and saw that and off the top of my head I thought I would drop you a line. It’s very interesting and I am curious. I have heard all my life I have black eyes and a Cherokee chin. lol:) On another note I have heard that some TEER‘s came to America from Ireland and they were MCTEER. They dropped the “Mc” because of racial issues. I do not know if my line did such. But any feedback is appreciated!

Cindy

Query: Hello, My mother’s mother was reportedly removed from her Cherokee parents not later than 1920 and put into foster care in the Missouri/Oklahoma/Arkansas border area. She “passed” as white her whole life and at some point as an adult got birth certificates in both Tennessee and Kentucky as Lillian DIXON. Her married name was Lillian BEESLEY. Her children still have no solid idea who she was as she would not speak much of it and they to this day doubt anything that she did say. Lillian has since passed and to her death refused to speak much of her past. I had DNA done on my mother and it does show that she is of Native American descent, so at least some of what Lillian DID say was truthful. If anyone knows how i can track down more information I would greatly appreciate it. Please help me put some peace to Lillian’s life.
