All of us Kentucky Daughertys have always believed that a man named Moses Daugherty (b. between 1790 and 1800) married a Cherokee woman as his first wife. But she either died or disappeared by 1828 when he married his second wife. By his Cherokee wife, he had children Nancy, Albert, Keziah, and Alvina. Keziah is my own ancestor.
I have often wondered if this woman might have chosen to go–or been forced to go–with her people when the Trail of Tears went through western Kentucky. The trail was apparently only about 15 miles from where Moses Daugherty lived.
The fact that the family has never handed down her name makes me think that something different happened than just her death. IF she left with the Trail of Tears, then she probably went to Oklahoma.
I came across a Native American card record with the name “Hoe Daugherty.” I can’t remember the quite long Indian name now. But a Moses Daugherty was listed as a father or grandfather.
Can anyone at all tell me any more information about Hoe Daugherty or his mother or his father?
Thanks.

I am related to Albert Daugherty 5th great grandfather I believe.I am trying to research the Cherokee lineage of the family. I found Moses to be born in 1795 in Warren,Co Ky died 1845 Butler,Co Ky. Moses’s first wife was a full blood Cherokee Indian her English name was Susan. She is believed to have died soon after childbirth. I am interested to find out if the family made it to Oklahoma so far I haven’t found any evidence that they did other than Daughtery being a surname on the rolls.
