Living in NC at time of Henderson (believe she passed before Removal, or was not considered as she lived in white household), married to Ned Leatherwood (originally from VA); children used Leatherwood surname. My gggf is Aquilla S. Leatherwood. Would like to know more about Betsy’s father, have found written NC histories that claim her mother was adopted orphan raised by Felix Walker, a trader. Any info that other descendants have verified would be appreciated.

There is a Betsey Walker on the Henderson Roll but they don’t have numbers, it just says TN after her name. Fort Worth TX National Archives holds these records. You can get copies.

I’m working the same Elizabeth Walker Leatherwood mystery. You mentioned a book that says she was raised as an orphan by Felix Walker. Can you tell me what book that’s from? My guess is that the Felix Walker referenced is Felix Walker Jr., who operated a store in the Qualla Boundary, but eventually gave it up to William H. Thomas.

I’m a great granddaughter of Betsy Walker through her daughter Hannah Leatherwood, is there anyway to match DNA with any of the Leatherwood family? I have done 23 and me and uploaded my raw DNA to Gedmatch, I would hope there is some way to match with others. Any websites you’ve seen?

I am a descendant also and would like to know more. I know my gg grandfather 1/16 was rejected on Baker roll and he had to list his lineage she listed as full blooded and wife of Leatherwood on application. I can tell you just like any government (corruption abound ) https://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/cherokee-intermarriage-enrollment.htm that was pick and choose also.
Felix was also listed for a time in Rutherford county NC Census. She was on the https://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/1835-cherokee-east-census-north-carolina.htm
They settled in Qualla Boundry at Jonathans Creek Maggie Valley area you can email me
