The story we were told is that Matt, as she was called, was Abducted by Samuel Turner and raised as his daughter until she married Jamison when she was told her real name was Danials. The Turners said they had found Matt playing in a dirt road and when they inquired with her mother they discovered she had too many children to care for. It is said “the old Indian woman” told them to take her and raise her, though in my youth the story was that Matt had been kidnapped by gypsies. If anyone has info on ANY of these families, JAMISON, TURNER, DANIALS, please contact me directly at:

Here is her timeline:
Born 1858 (Possibly Illinois)
Taken to Missouri
1888 Married William Thomas Lane Jamison
1893 Gave birth to Annie May Jamison
1899 Death in Cook Station, Dent County, MO

I have seen a copy of a letter my Aunt wrote to the Crawford County historical society. She would have been a grand daughter of Matt Danials. In her letter, the grand daughter clearly states “My mother knew her Grandfather. He was a chief of a group of Cherokee that used to meet at Round Spring.” Unfortunately, she gave no name.
Round Spring is now a State Park in Eminence, MO near the Current River. Anyone having historical data on this area around the time of 1850 to 1860, PLEASE contact me directly at: anniann35@yahoo.com
Even if you could recommend reading material about the history of this place, anything at all, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
