Seeking to better explain my family’s lineage to reported Cherokee marriages and relations in West Virginia/Kentucky region. My primary name is Muncy. Closely related are Lester, Hagerman, Sizemore, Estep. Confused whether accurate on locations (Tazewell area into Clay Co. Kentucky) and marriages. Appreciate help. Research has not carried into modern day connections. Allegedly late 1700’s into 1800’s.

What exactly are you referencing here with Cherokee marriage and relations in West Virginia and Kentucky in the late 1700s and early 1800s? There were never any Cherokee communities in those areas in the historic era, Basically, in that specific time period and place there were effectively no Cherokee marriages taking place. There could have been a few outlier individuals that had moved north by the mid-1800s or so (and up to the present time). But, they all would trace back to Cherokee lineages that came from outside VA/WV/KY.
Also, tracing Cherokee ancestry is about doing standard genealogy. You simply move back through the generations from yourself, or those in your specific lines, using documentation…and you build a tree.. If there is a legitimate Cherokee connection in a particular family tree, it will eventually show up in records. And yes, often times, intermarrying families of recognized Cherokees will be apparent at some point. But, this requires recognition of these SPECIFIC individuals and families and being affiliated with the Cherokee community. If you are talking about families that are tracing back to VA/WV/KY, it is not pointing to a Cherokee connection necessarily. Sizemore, specifically, has failed to prove any Cherokee connection. It has been so overwhelmingly debunked, in fact, that a special report was submitted for this large family group.
