Cheever Witty

I am looking to help trying to trace somebody who in our past we have been told they were Cherokee.

I am David Harrison son of Rose Ann Witty (my mother).
Her mother was Betty Sue Witty (her brother was Edward Witty suicide my mothers Uncle) married to Monroni (Italian decent)
Her mother was Vera Jean Ethridge (Arkansas 1907)
Her father was Cheever Witty (grandfather died 12-2-1942 great granddad)

We have a voice recording from Vera Jean Ethridge that says her father was Cherokee. We are trying to verify this was current.
