Hi, I’ve been told that my great grandfather (Leff Joseph Alley) was 1/2 Cherokee, his mother’s maiden name was Moxley (Minnie) and his father’s last name was Alley (Jake). Thanks for any help! They lived in Alleghany County NC.

Leff’s father was described as having blue eyes in a draft card, and was from the Virginia Alley family. His mother was from the Moxley family of Alleghany County, NC. There is no indication they were Cherokee. He can be found on the 1920, 1930, and 1940 Census records. Here is his birth record info:
