I’ve been searching for several years for my Cherokee link. My grandfather was a man who taught me profound respect for Native communities and who served as an elementary school teacher for the Crow. I have family that worked as doctors, hunters and friends for other tribes and I am a counselor for a Pacific NW tribal community. I was named after my great grandmother Sarah Sallie May Hall, my grandfather’s mother.
Sallie’s father Was Thomas Harmon Hall. His father was Royal Columbus Hall Sr. (b.1806) and here where the link gets lost.
I was linked a couple years ago by confirmed DNA testing to a 4th cousin who by oral report states that “Billy Hall” is Royal Sr.’s father. He may be either William Billy Hall Jr. or Sr., or just BIlly. For years I have been unable to locate any documentation on this. One other reference states a William Hall Jr. is Royal’s father. Either way, a William “Billy” Hall, who is confirmed having married Letty Mantooth, daughter of Cherokee Tom Mantooth, and on up to Chief Kanagatoga Moytoy may be “BIlly Hall” or may be William Hall Sr. and the William Billy Hall may be William Jr. It’s all completely lost out there somewhere. This history is primarily Tennessee and Hall’s top mountain stories.
Some sources state that Billy and Letty had children that are not named in sources. They are listed as “unknown.” And with middle names being popular to change to, any of their children really could be the missing link.
Please help me find the links between my Native ancestors and Sarah, Thomas, Royal and Billy. I would be grateful. My blood quantum is only 1/256 (by confirmed DNA test and analyzation) leaving Chief Moytoy my 9th great grandfather, but that link in the middle is still missing. Being in service to Native communities is part of my heritage and the history is part of what drives me in the good I do in this world.

I have also done family research and have come across a family member with the name Moytoy. Her name is Elizabeth Raven-Hop Moytoy Hughes Vann (1726-1819). That is the farthest I have gotten for her side of the family. I have a bunch of information about her husband, John “Trader” Vann’s, family though. Her son is John Joseph Vann. PLease let me know if this helps!!
