My husband, Billy Ray Chitwood, of Campbell Co., TN, was always told he had Cherokee ancestors. He has done the ancestry DNA test and it doesn’t show, but since it would be far back that isn’t surprising. Serepta Lawson married William Hiram Bridges. Recently I came across a Tye Lawson (parents: George Rogers and Sally Lawson) and grandfather John Lawson that are supposed to connect into his Lawson line somewhere. Serepta’s father might be a David Lawson as her son was named David Lawson Bridges (Elk Valley TN). Bill is also connected to Drewry Smith who married Sally Smith (daughter of John Smith & Elon of Buffalo Creek TN). He ties into the Tye family of Knox/Whitley Cos KY – who had a Drewry Lawson tie-in. Any help much appreciated. His tree on Ancestry is Gehrandt Julie Chitwood.

Do a web search on Cherokee DNA. Cherokee are unlike most other Native Americans, as frequently even full blood Cherokee DNA shows as one of the T haplogroups, identifying them as northern European. Check out the following link to get started:
