Query: Very sketchy, I know. But here goes… Father: Bill (William?) Ferguson. May have been from Princeton Missouri area or thereabouts. Cherokee lineage through him (rumor that his grandmother was fully Cherokee). Also rumor that his other grandmother may have been “Belle” (Shirley) Starr. Yes, the outlaw. Age unknown. Never knew much about him. Guessing age range would be between 75 and 90 as of 2013. Mother: Maiden name Dora “Doddie” Kirkham. Kirksville, Missouri. Great Grandfather may have been fully Cherokee. Name may have been Clinton “Red” Forest (or Forrest) or may have been from somewhere named Clinton Forest. Long shot, I know… but thanks for any info!

Query: My great grandmother is full blooded Indian. I have a picture of her. The family says she is Cherokee. Her name was listed as LULU MAY HENDERSHOT. She was born on April 24 1888 in West Virginia with a mother listed as DENA HENDERSHOT. It also lists her as a basterd?.Another source says she was born Aug 8 1889 in West Virginia and lists her father as Jason Hendershot. ??? I Believe she was snatched. She is an Indian. There is no denying that. Jason Hendershot s first wife is listed as her mother who died with in a year. Her name was Rachel. We have been told tthat my great grandmother was forced to marry my great grandfather Fountain W. ENSMINGER, he is German. She died 12 4 1940 of a heart problems and rheumatoid arthritis. Every one is deceased. I can find no records of her. I truly believed she was snatched for some reason. They say she was a very good woman who was forced to marry a very mean man. She gave birth to my grandfather Thomas Harold Ensminger. He was a very honorable and good man who died of a heart attack and is the father of my father Windell ENSMINGER, he also passed from a heart attack and was also a very honorable and good man, the best. If you have any info please email me. I would also like to know about DNA testing as it appears everyone tried to hide the fact that she was a Native American.

The report is that my grandmother had an affair with a full blood Cherokee, name unknown and became pregnant with my mother in late 1942. My grandmother was shipped off to her sisters in Stigler, OK to have the baby and my aunt was the only one who knew and had told her daughter who in turn told my mother this last summer. Everyone who knew the truth is now deceased. I do not hold much hope of finding out who my grandfather is but needed to try any way. If anyone has any information I would greatly appreciate knowing. I don’t care about being on a roll nor do I wish to dishonor memories of our loved ones but man I would really like to know where I fit.

Query: I’m looking for info on my great-grandmother…a full blooded Cherokee who’s white name was Alice Butler. She was adopted by a white family (in Virginia I think) who ran a logging camp, which is where she met & married my great-grandfather James Venoy Vaughn. They had 5 children: Lettie Mae, Ida Delight, James Butler, Hiley, Maggie Irene, Arvill, and Jewel Bernice. Alice died when Jewel was 2 or 3 years old and James died when Jewel was 8 years old. Jewel was raised by my grandmother (Hiley) and my grandfather (J.C. Haun) in a two story log house in Kingsport that belonged to Alice and James Vaughn. My great-grandparents (Alice and James) lived in an area of Kingsport, TN called Long Island of the Holston (river) near Eastman Chemical Company. Long Island was a sacred council and treaty site among the Cherokee and is now a U.S. national historic landmark. Unfortunately neither my grandmother (Hiley) or any of her siblings kept up with their family history enough to know their mother’s (Alice) Indian name or tribe, which is the info I’m searching for now.
