Query: To whom it may concern,
If you can help us with this it would be greatly appreciated.
My sister and I are Great Granddaughters of Mary Ann Thomas (Oniska), the daughter of Lucy Bearpaw Proctor (Northern Tsalagi band) and James Edward Siasee Thomas (born in the Indian Territory in Ashe Co, North Carolina)
Our Grandmother is Rachel Tyree youngest daughter of Mary Ann Thomas and David Tyree Jr. She married Elihu Brown in Whitesburg Kentucky. Our father Leonard Calvert Brown was the son of Rachel and Elihu’s born 1900 in Whitesburg, Letcher County, Kentucky.
We are trying to find the correct Tribal group that we would be affiliated with. For many years now we have found it extremely hard to trace our ancestry as so many miss steps have lead down the wrong roads. We would very much like to connect with our heritage and family members. Is it possible for you to help find the correct Tribe and possibly assist with determining what our Cherokee blood percentage might be?
Please contact me at any of the listed addresses/emails or phones if you have information or know who we should contact.
Respectfully,
Linda Brown Ph.D.

Query: I have been told that my great-great grandfather was at least part Cherokee, possibly full-blood. But when I research his name (Clyde Noah Jackson), I can’t get very far. I can’t even find his birth/death dates. He married Ida Miller, who was born August 30, 1869, and died October 12, 1894. They had a daughter, Lillian, who was born in 1890. She was 3-4 years old when her mother died, and we think her father (Clyde Noah Jackson) would have died about that time also, since Lillian (my great-grandmother) was considered an orphan. None of the family knows what became of Clyde Noah Jackson, but the story we’ve been told is that he was Cherokee.

Query: It’s obvious by photos and family stories from my dad of his grandmothers “people” coming to help with harvest and the constant reminder to not mention the word Indian that my grandmother was in fact native american. Her legal name on documents was Maggie Jane Childers born july 12, 1887 and married Anville Mason McCammon Oct 26, 1904. My dads uncle did disclose to my dad that they were Cherokee and hinted that Maggie was full Cherokee. Maggies children that lived to adulthood we Emner (often misrecorded as Ermer, Zora, Roy and my grandmother Elba which we always thought was Elva. In my search I keep coming across vaguely connected names of Amos Earl Childers (my dads name is Earl and a last name of Benbow. So far I do not have much to go on except this. I would greatly appreciate any additional information.

Query: I have been searching for 4 yrs. to find my G-Grandmother. Not to prove anything, but to just find her info. She was full Cherokee and died at childbirth in 1910. Her daughter, my Grandmother, was adopted by a white family last name Mathews. I don’t think she married my G-Grandfather, James D. Faulkner, but she gave my grandmother his last name, Margaret Faulkner. All I know is my grandmother put her mothers name down on her SS card app. as Lillian Henderson. They lived in Society Hill, SC., and Cheraw. I have found other relatives buried there but no sign of Lilly. I think she was born around 1893. Can anyone help? I know 1910 records for South Carolina are hard to find.
