Query: I am trying to find information on my Gr-Gr-Grandmother Mary E. Winters Sisson Walker, born in Cleveland, Bradley, Tennessee 11/14/1855 & died 12/06/1901 in Indian Territory, Atoka, Oklahoma. Specifically, I need to know who her biological mother was. I have seen evidence that her mother was Martha A. Chastain, but I have also seen evidence that her mother was Mary Ann Martha Chapman. As many of the people leaving questions here, I have also always been told that we have Cherokee lineage, that one my ancestors walked the “Trail of Tears,” and Mary E. Winters Sisson Walker was the missing link. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been working on this off & on for more than 20 years now. Thank you!

It is said that she married a white man (George W. Parton) and moved off the reservation. When she died, a few days later the tribal members came and dug up her grave – taking her back to the reservation for a proper burial and to be with her tribe. Her daughter is Mary Parton, born Jan. 19, 1884. We have always been told that she came from the Eastern band of Cherokee, but I have not been able to find anything past her – parents, grandparents..nothing.

Query: Lucy BOLAND (1759-1830), wife of Jonathan DAGLEY (1755-1830) was claimed to be of Cherokee blood by at least 13 descendants who filed claims. It was stated in several of the claims that their son Alvis was “proven” (1851?)… and more than once it was stated that John Ross and Thomas White had vouched for his being Cherokee by blood. Alvis unfortunately died while his claim was being processed (1895). Just curious and wondering if there is a trail here… or were all 13 of them crazy or greedy.

Query: I always been told my great, great, great grandfather, Edmond Suter was a French and Indian fur trader from Canada who worked his way down through Penn. into Virginia and North Carolina to Tennessee circa 1775. He came to what was then called Nashboro to the trading post owned by a man named Denumbran and was sent by him to open a trading post at the junction of Budd’s Creek and Cumberland River. He came here with a Cherokee wife we have been told but no one knows her name as been trying to find it for the last 29 years. Some say Edmond was Blackfoot and French others say Cherokee and French. We need this wife’s name. His son Thomas was married to a Cherokee I have been told and was my Great Grandfather Samuel W. Suter. When my Grandfather married my Grandmother Sara Sutton (also half Cherokee) the name Suter became Suiter. We had no one that we know of who went of the Trail of Tears march. Would like to get our tribal card but can’t without Edmonds wife’s name. Can anyone help?

Query: Looking for information about my Mother’s Great Grandmother. She was the second Indian wife of “Kentucky Sam” Caudle. Kentucky Sam reportedly had married twice to Cherokee women and had 27 children between them. I am descended from the second wife. They lived in OK and in North TX areas. My Great Grandfather, Sam Henry Caudle, (half Cherokee) was a teamster with freight wagons around Cheyenne, OK, in the late 1800’s. Any info or help finding out about the early family would be greatly appreciated.
