Query: David Carter was a Supreme Court Justice & editor of the Cherokee Advocate in Cherokee Nation West. He presided over the 1st murder trial in Cherokee Nation. His father was Nathaniel Carter (kidnapped as a child at Wallenpaupack after his family was killed in a massacre during French Indian War, raised by the Cherokees, and married a Cherokee woman). David Carter was educated at Brainerd and Cornwall around the time Ridge & Boudinot were there. Carter County, Okla was named after his son (or grandson) and his grandson (Charles David Carter) was one of the first US Representatives from the newly formed state of Oklahoma.
My questions:
1) WHO was David Carter’s mother?
2) Who adopted Nathaniel Carter and raised him in the Cherokee tribe?

The line goes from Daniel, to Allen Hampton McFalls, to Wade Hampton McFall, to Clyde Christopher McFaul, to my father, Donovan McFaul. My father would have been 1/16th Cherokee, and I am 1/32. Query: I am looking for any information I can find on my gg grandfather Frank Justice/Justus. I was always told when I was a child by my father that we were of Cherokee heritage and that a few of his great grandparents were full Cherokee. In search of my family genealogy I wanted to see what I could find. My g-grandmother (Nancy-born in 1888) on my father’s mothers side was said to have strong Indian features but apparently families didn’t speak of these things. It is only an assumption until I can proof otherwise that if she was of Indian decent then it could have come from her father Frank Justice/Justus. He is a mystery. He was married to Rowena Sweeney who (born around 1854) , remarried when Nancy was 3. I cannot find out what happened to Frank let alone who he was. They apparently also had 2 or 3 children older than Nancey and apparently no one knew about, nothing ever talked about that is and that they possible lived somewhere around Southern Illinois in the mid to late 1880’s. Rowena was from Todd County KY. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Query: I recently read in the Pioneer Indian Papers of 1937 that my Great Grand father WILLIAM(BILL) BENGE (date of death 1880) and his father OBIDAIH BENGE were buried at a place called the Old Indian Courthouse on Skin Bayou about nine miles North East of Sallisaw, Oklahoma. in 1937 my great Uncle DAVID WASHINGTON BENGE was interviewed and this was part of the interview, he said at that time the hanging tree was still standing. Does anyone know the location of the Old Indian Court House in what is now Sequoyah County. The person at Seqyouah’s Cabin Museum told me Skin Bayou ran right behind the museum, he also said there were several places where the Cherokee’s held court. He said there was one place near Maple Cemetery.
