Was told my great grandmother was Cherokee
This is what I know. Born circa 1846. From my understanding Cherokee first purchased by a Coleman in the Fayetteville, NC area, who allegedly thought she was black. Sold to a Moses Cox (slave owner) to Cox Mills area/Ayden NC. Her son, Elbert, by owner born circa 1863.
William Presley Self to Catherine Rising Fawn Moytoy. Are my 4th great-grandparents also. My ancestors were mostly from Virginia. The Self line married into the Shifflett, Lamb and Samuels. Hello, I am inquiring about the relationship, if there is one, of George Washington Starr (1806-1880) to James McMinn Starr (1896-1845). Every site I find claims that James is his father. However, the birth years do not commute. James is also a Cherokee, so I am interested to see if George is as well.
