I am born and raised in western North Carolina, specifically Macon county. My ancestors are from various other counties as well, including Swain, Jackson and others. My great, great grandfather, fought with Thomases Legion and enrolled with the unit and quality town in 1861. His name is William Bryson Cole, but listed under the last name Buchanan. I have been told that many other family members were original Eastern band Cherokee; however, I am attempting to confirm those assertions. Thank you.
