My 3rd G-Grandfather< Blackburn Quinn, married a Cherokee woman named Sarah or Sally. They lived in North Carolina, South Carolina and Habersham (White Co) Georgia. They had a son named Blackburn A. Quinn (aka – Bazel A Quinn).
I would appreciate any info about Sarah. All I can find is the reference to "Possibly Cherokee". Then again, she could be Creek,Seminole or any other tribe. I know some tribes were sold as slaves by the Creeks to Europeans in NC, SC and Georgia.

Hi,
You would be speaking of Sarah Elizabeth Quinn, who also is my relative. I understand, based on family oral history, Sarah was Cherokee or perhaps Creek.
Given what you have noted on Bazel A. Quinn, I did a search on FindAGrave and found this listing….

Sarah Elizabeth Quinn is the Lady’s name though. Would be interested in hearing what you find. Lots of Quinn’s listed on Dawes Rolls, but she would have been something other than a Quinn before she married, unless she was head of household as many women were in their matriarchal society.

Yes….Sally (Sarah) Moss is what I understand her name to be from what I have found. (Everything is a mystery though) My Grandmother used to talk of her Mother’s sisters and how they refused to get onto the Dawes Rolls because of the prejudice of the time. Self preservation is a strong motivator….but it sure makes research harder now. 🙂
She also had a grandson named John Henry Quinn. He fought in the Civil War on both sides. First the Confederates. Then (after spending time in a Union prison camp) for the Union….or vice versa.

Hello, it has been way to long to sign on to this site. I read your reply dated 2017 and believe that we are speaking of the same person. My Mom was told she was somehow tied into Blackburn Quinn, but we have no way of knowing how. I know of one person, now deceased, from another family who had relatives who had fears of being made move west if their Cherokee ancestry was ever known. In fact my friend said that the family Bible was buried to keep the story hidden. I am working hard to help have some documentation for the Cherokee ancestry of SEQ for my Mom’s sake. The DNA struck out for us, but that isn’t reliable anyway I hear and open to speculation.
