We are trying to trace Richard Bondurant also Elizabeth and her brother Isom Cloud. One on the children’s names was Soondr Rtah Nayela Powantonoma after a relative. This person went by the English name Martha. We know that Richard was French and was at a town named Manakin in Virginia. He later settled at the top of the Mattaponie.

Soondr Rtah Nayela Powantonoma is not a Cherokee name, and Manakin or Mattaponie VA are nowhere near any Cherokee settlements. Some sources state willl records do show a link between Elizabeth and brother Isom Cloud.

FYI: The internet sources that mention that supposed name are highly questionable.. Can you find any historical or properly sourced record with that name? Or, it is solely a copy-paste situation eminating from the Panther-Yates uncited posts from the late 90s?

Thank you fir the information..The sourve is a book by my Great, (4g) Goldie who states a indian wife was married to a bondurant (bundred in some cases). The history is polluted though. The family talks about two Cherokee tribes that traded with the Powhatan people not mentioning any tribe. I am going through old documents and will try to find the link of my blood and what tribe. Again thank you for the help.

Martha is somehow related to me also via Rose Virginia Watson Bondurant. I will have to find the info. I recently discovered Martha, and know nothing about her, but I do know that there is a native family connection. Please reply if you still use this site. I am excited to learn what you know.
